Get A Permanent Solution To Your Missing Teeth

By: Irwin S Home | Health-and-Fitness | Dental

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root replacement that resembles a tooth or group of teeth. Dental implants will allow you to once again speak and eat with comfort and confidence! They'll allow you to say goodbye to worries about displaced dentures and messy denture adhesives. With dental implants you won’t have your dentures slipping and sliding in your mouth anymore and you will enjoy excellent implant-supported dentures. Although there are several types of dental implants but the major classifications are divided into

* Osseo integrated implant
* Fibro integrated implant.

The most successful and widely accepted implant today is the osseo integrated implant. The titanium can be successfully fused into bone when osteo blasts grow on and into the rough surface of the implanted titanium This forms a structural and functional connection between the living bone and the implant. A variation on the implant procedure is the implant-supported bridge, or implant-supported denture.
Symphony of Implants

A typical implant consists of a titanium screw (resembling a tooth root) with a roughened or smooth surface. The very first implants were made out of commercially pure titanium, however since it was discovered that the alloy offered the same osseo integration level due to its better tensile strength and thus fracture resistant.
Basic Procedure

The dental implant insertion procedure involves three main stages:

1. The implant insertion stage :- The first is the surgical insertion of the metal implants.
2. Osseo integration (the period of healing for the jawbone) :- This is followed by a second surgery, about three to six months later, to insert the abutment.
3. The attachment of the restoration or new tooth :- The third step, usually two to four weeks later, is custom-making the prosthesis and attaching it to the abutment. There are typically several adjustments needed until the prosthesis is attached to the abutments.

There are different approaches to placing dental implants after tooth extraction. The approaches are:

1. Immediate post-extraction implant placement.
2. Delayed immediate post-extraction implant placement (2 weeks to 3 months after extraction).
3. Late implantation (3 months after tooth extraction).

According to the timing of loading of dental implants, the procedure of loading could be classified into:

1. Immediate loading procedure.
2. Early loading (1 week to 12 weeks).
3. Staged loading (3-6 months).
4. Late loading (more than 6 months).

They are typically constructed of titanium, a strong and safe material that effectively attaches to bone.
