One type of vacation that is becoming ever-more popular is a trip to a resort to learn or practise the art of yoga. The resort does not necessarily have to be in an exotic location. However, they are most often in a relaxing and natural environment, such as a mountainous area like Kathmandu in Nepal or on a tropical island such as Ibiza. Yoga holidays are wonderful and their recent increase in popularity is probably due to various reasons. Some people want to try something new, others want to find the ultimate way to 'get away from it all', and others still already with some experience in the art of yoga but want to improve their level or achieve yoga certification in any of a range of levels. Trying something new is so natural to humans that it is almost instinct. It separates us from the other animal species, in that we desire a thrill or a change. This need for us to get away from normal life for a while has enabled the invention of extreme sports, such as bungee jumping and sky diving. It has also allowed us to explore our world and discover new lands, cultures, languages and foods. Not everyone is a thrill seeker, though, and there are lots of us who either ask 'what is yoga?' or already have some idea and want to learn yoga on one of the many yoga courses on offer around the world. In addition, there are people who have tried other ways to relax fully on vacation such as reading a book or locking themselves away in their hotel room and have yet to find the ultimate method of switching off from their busy everyday lives. For these people, yoga holidays offer what is probably the very best way to wind down from their busy and stress-filled schedules of work or family life. Taking themselves away to a yoga resort allows them to completely recharge their batteries and enables them to perform better upon their return. Finally, there are those who actually like to study yoga in an effort to improve their level. Some want to go on to become yoga instructors, but most just want to become more proficient at relaxing and stretching their bodies to get the maximum benefits. For those who want to learn yoga from any level to one higher, yoga holidays to Kathmandu in Nepal or Ibiza, Spain can offer them an extra benefit. They get to have a break, improve their health and also improve their knowledge, understanding and ability of this fine and ancient art. So, with excellent reasons for all kinds of people to take themselves away and do something, or nothing, depending on how they view it, yoga holidays are a wonderful idea. It doesn't need to be 'full-on' or painful, or too 'hippy-like.' The stigma of it being just for a couple of certain kinds of people has long gone. Give it a try. You may well surprise yourself!
