Get To Know The Right Ingredients For A Healthy Pregnancy Diet.

By: Roger Noonan Home | Health-and-Fitness

The right kind of pregnancy diet is vital for the well-being of your baby. Women often get scared that they might put on additional weight during pregnancy. As a result, they tend to eat diet foods. This can be very detrimental to the baby's health since whatever you eat passes over to the baby through the placenta. Diet foods tend to have fewer nutrients and more preservatives, which can cause a lot of problems and even birth defects in the baby.

Your pregnancy diet should be a balanced diet. It should contain adequate amounts of folate or folic acid, proteins, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and fats. Folate is required throughout the pregnancy but more so in the early months since it's instrumental in the formation of the brain and development of the nerves. While he is in your womb, your baby can only get all these nutrients from you. Therefore, it's essential that you watch what you are eating.

Your fat levels, weight, and many other factors determine the calorie requirements of your body. Your pregnancy diet should also cater to your baby's calorie requirement, which means it should have at least 300 additional calories. Your doctor will be able to tell you the exact amount of calories you need to consume since everyone has different calorie requirements. Overweight pregnant mothers should never cut down on their calories on their own because it may impact the health of the baby. Consult your doctor for all such concerns.

The right kind of pregnancy diet should be varied in nature. This means each day you need to have different permutations of various kinds of food items in your diet. Optimum pregnancy nutrition means that you have the different foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, proteins, whole grains, and dairy products. Even when your doctor prescribes vitamins for you, you need to eat a healthy and balanced diet.

You should also completely exclude certain food groups from your pregnancy diet. These foods include unhealthy foods, tinned foods and uncooked or contaminated foods. In other words, anything that can cause an infection or food poisoning should be completely avoided.

Though it may not be a typical nutrient, water is an important part of your pregnancy diet. Most women do not like drinking a lot of water particularly during the later months of the pregnancy since it makes them go to the bathroom often. However, the right amount of water can play a major role in the prevention of everyday problems related to pregnancy like haemorrhoids, dehydration, bladder infections, swelling of the extremities and even constipation. Many women opt for diuretics like coffee and soda, which cause more harm than good. You should even avoid sweeteners as well, as most of them contain aspartame, which can harm your baby.

It has often been seen that healthy babies excel in all spheres of life and are able to handle the stresses and strains of life much better. If you want to have a healthy baby, you need to make sure that your pregnancy diet is full of the right kind of nutrients.
