Getting Even With Sports Betting Odds

By: Charile Jones Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Being perceptive to the ways of sports betting odds is a sure way to get the maximum benefit from the bet. Understanding the game itself is imperative as this will tell you how the players, coaches, audience and the venue affect the outcome of the game.

For those who are a novice to sports betting odds, interpreting the point spreads is important. The most common games people place their bets on are football and baseball. If you are betting on baseball, odds are involved known as Money Line which is dealt in dollars. To place a bet on the favorite team, one has to shell out more than what they would win, for instance to win $1 the required amount for betting is $1.5. Placing bets on the underdog (least favorite team) will fetch more than the amount of the bet in sports betting odds. Thus betting on the underdog is more beneficial while betting on the favorite team will be a minus. For example, for a game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, if the favored team is the New York Yankees, the bet placed is $165 to win $100; while to bet on the underdogs (here that would be the Boston Red Sox), you need to place a bet of $100 to win $145. The difference between the bet placed on the favorite team and the amount (if) won from the underdogs is called the cent line, in this example it is $20, $165 - $145.

It is also essential to understand a run line to fully understand sports betting odds especially in baseball. In baseball odds, the run line is known as the spread. As the scores in baseball are low, the spread for the favored team is read at -1.5 while for the opposite team it is always +1.5. For a less dangerous approach, turn the table to make one team an underdog on the spread or the run line, and this team would be the favored team on the sports betting odds board.

A person, who fully understands the sports betting odds, will not let anyone tell him who to bet on. Instead he would analyze the information before him and use it to make a decision. One very important fact to remember is, baseball betting lines are never equal or the same. Hence intelligent betters will always play the Dime Line or the 10-cent line, as it returns more value on the money bet. A game carrying a Dime Line will have the favorite team paired against an underdog for a Money Line of -145 (for the favored team) and +135 (for the underdog). You can better understand the Dime Line and Money Line concept in sports betting odds by reading a sportsbook guide. Placing small bets is a safer bet.

Sports betting odds may seem confusing to a novice, but once you start betting you will get a better grasp of things. Getting it right the first time may be a sheer chance of luck and losers don’t need to be disheartened. Keep trying and you will eventually succeed. To ensure consistent wins in Sports betting odds in any sport, invest in a handicapper to bring in continuous flow of profits. A handicapper is a system which makes use of experience, angles, trends, and a proven method of producing a winning streak.
