Getting Porcelain Veneers Vs. Getting Composite Resin Veneers

By: Zyra Robinson Home | Health-and-Fitness | Dental

Considering that the dentistry industry has developed a growing appreciation of all procedures cosmetic in Boca Raton and elsewhere, it is very important for patients to get a clear look into the various treatments and procedures dentists from Boca Raton, FL have to offer. Cosmetic dental surgery in Boca Raton is definitely on the rise at present, and so are the less invasive treatments and procedures such as getting dental veneers. Dental veneers in Boca Raton and elsewhere, however, are generally made with either of two different materials: porcelain and composite resin. While either one is a good choice, each certainly has its pros and cons that every patient should weigh in first. The following is a round-up of the pros and cons of both porcelain veneers and composite resin veneers.

First and foremost, however, it is important to understand what dental veneers actually are. These are thin, tooth-colored caps that can fit over regular teeth in order to improve their shape and color. They can be custom-fit to make sure that they look as natural as possible. Now, as was mentioned, veneers can be crafted either from porcelain or from composite resin.

Porcelain veneers are considerably sturdy. They can actually last from ten to fifteen years, depending on how well you can maintain them. As long as you don't chip your teeth or chew on hard substances like ice, porcelain veneers can definitely offer durability. Porcelain veneers also look very natural. They appear to be very life-like and possess the certain shade and appearance very much like the regular teeth. Porcelain is translucent, and this translucence lets outside light give a certain sense of depth that is much like natural enamel. Porcelain is also stain-resistant, able to keep from staining despite coffee ingestion or cigarette smoking. Finally, porcelain veneers are conservative, meaning that very little of the actual tooth needs to be removed in order for a veneer to be fitted over it.

Now, while porcelain veneers may immediately seem like the way to go, composite resin veneers also have their advantages of the former material. Porcelain veneers need to be made at a laboratory and, thus, will require at least two visits, while composite resin veneers only take one chair-side procedure. An adequate amount of the original tooth will have to be pared off for composite resin veneers to be fitted, but if you're in a rush, they are the way to go. Besides taking up a lot of time, getting porcelain veneers also requires more money, since it takes greater expertise to make them. Finally, unlike composite resin veneers, porcelain ones cannot be repaired, requiring the fitting of a brand-new set if the old one gets broken. Now that you have the data, you can figure out which one suits you!
