Goal Setting & Personal Planning For Success

By: Sam Beatson Home |

When it comes to goal setting and personal planning the success there is nothing that stimulates the mind and the creative imagination more than putting pen to paper. You have to use your brain, you have to use your body and you have to use your mind to think in order to do this. From doing this one simple exercise, you will be able to motivate yourself toward action immediately. So it is worth having a pen and paper or notepad to hand, because it's time to do some goalsetting and personal planning the success.

First of all, imagine from moment or two that you could have, do or be absolutely anything that you could possibly desire. You probably noticed the shift in consciousness when you did that. This is the mindset from which you can set your most inspiring goals. This is where dreams are born from. So imagine again that you could have do or be absolutely anything you could possibly desire, you have no limits, what ever you decide, you can have, be or do and you will attract all the necessary resources, people, money, skills that you need. If you can, you can imagine and feel that you have these resources already.

Make a list now of your most important goals. List approximately 5 goals that currently seem possible for you but are stretch. List approximately 3 goals that are going to be easy view to achieve today for example, doing the dishes, putting some clothes away, or watching your face and cleaning your teeth. Your listing these goals because you will be able to take them off at the end of the day, tell your mind that these are wins, and begin to reinforce to yourself and your mind more importantly that you can achieve your goals. Make sure you also lists five goals which right now are seemingly impossible goals.

The next step in achieving your goals is to make a plan of massive action. To do this you can list everything that you think you need to do in order to achieve your goals. This is your action plan. Now taking each action that you know you're going to have to do or think you are going to have to do sooner or later and order them between one and three in order of priority. Go to your number one priority actions and grade them a, b or c in order of priority.

Once you start taking action on your A1 priorities you will begin generating the momentum it is going to take you to achieve your goals.

Here are some rules which can be applied to goalsetting: make your goal measurable; make your goal specific; when writing your goal, ensure it is achievable to you; try and make your goal realistic; make it time bound -- give yourself a deadline; write your goals in the present tense as if you have already achieved it.

There is a specific goalsetting exercise you can do when making and setting up successful personal planning for your goals like you may have just done if he did the exercise. It comes from a military strategy idea. This is also applied to business Systems, competitive software design and other areas and is termed reverse engineering. To reverse engineer your goals, you go to the end result and work the action plan backwards. You ask yourself what is the last thing that I need to do to achieve this goal? Then you can ask yourself what is the penultimate thing I need to do to achieve this goal? And then, what I have to do before that, what action would I have to take before the penultimate thing I would have to do in order to achieve this goal? And so forth, and so on...

This article shows you how to apply personal planning to achieve goal setting success. The only thing left view to do is to take the massive action by starting with your A1 priorities. Rewrite your list of goals each day. Feel free to edit them, change them, update them and delete them or tick them off as you achieve them or as they are no longer appropriate or desirable, i.e. you let them go.
