By: Erco Travels Home | Travel-and-Leisure

With growing economy and so much of emphasis on conserving areas of green in the country, there is another aspect that is fast becoming a rage-putting in greens. Aided by corporate and urban developers, who have started not just emphasising, but also including the option of golf course in their construction and development plans to entice customers, more and more golf courses are mushrooming almost everywhere. And with that the sport is gaining all the more popularity as it is moving out from the ambit of elites and becoming more reachable for middle class populace.

With sport picking up by leaps and bound, even golf courses are mushrooming in different parts of the country. Efforts are being put in place to promote the game. One such aspect of promotion is through Golf Tours that links this sport with the travel industry. In fact Erco Travels agents mention that gradually golf tourism is emerging as an extremely lucrative travel business, where in players from Japan and Southeast Asia specially fly in the country on chartered flights over the weekends to take advantage of India's putting vistas.

Today India offers a lot to golf lovers-some of the greatest golfing challenges that also include world class and even designer golf courses, along with golf courses of historical importance, many of which are still waiting to be explored and have lot of potential to translate into golfers delight.

What’s more? India offers stunningly diverse range of Golf Courses in India that can please everyone-from amateurs to professionals. After all India is a country where Golf was introduced way back in the 1820s; thereafter the sport did make rapid strides across the length and breadth of the country. Then there also came a time when Indian golfers started making their presence felt in international tournaments. Today even the domestic tours are being organized in an extremely professional manner, which has given impetus to the game.

So the golden age of Indian golf, which started with Ali Sher's memorable Indian open triumph is now continuing to be a force to reckon with, where in many of Indian golfers are shining and breaking records on fresh grounds and in distant lands. Now even Indian Golf Union (IGU), which is actually the administrative body for the management and promotion of the sport in India, is making sincere efforts to improve the standard and make the game popular in the country. The Union was established in the year 1955 and by 1995 IGU’s decision gave rise to the birth of a separate body for the sport in the country - the Professional Golfers' Association of India (PGAI). Thanks to all the efforts and the sheer determination and dedication of the players, today Indian golf has names like Jyoti Randhawa, Jeev Milka Singh, Shiv Kapur, Gaurav Ghei and Arjun representing the country.

No wonder then that the sport is also attracting tourism sector, where in opportunity exist to share the excellent infrastructure offered by the country with players of other countries, or even with amateurs so as they are lured to join the sports.
