A number of Government Tenders have been released for The Concourse in Chatswood. This includes tenders for supply of loose furniture throughout the Concourse Performance Venues and Library, supply and installation of compactus units and library shelving, and relocation services to transfer the Library collection and other related elements from a number of locations within the Willoughby area to the new library. The Concourse is the new name for Chatswood’s Civic Place †a site that holds a special place in the hearts of residents of the North Shore. For over 100 years, the site has been the home of performing arts, community celebrations and civic ceremonies. Many locals had their first recital here, or experienced their first live show. Many more became new Australians on the stage of the old Civic Centre. The Concourse is destined to become one of Sydney’s leading entertainment venues †with state-of-the-art facilities for concerts, conventions and corporate hospitality. The site will also include support facilities and specialist spaces, perfect for smaller meetings, presentations, formal events, training workshops, break-out sessions, touring exhibitions and curated shows. An outdoor amphitheatre and park will bring music and performances into the open air for everyone to enjoy. Already the busiest library in NSW, Chatswood Library on The Concourse will be one of the biggest †at more than three times the size of the original. Making the most of its new home, Chatswood Library will offer new and expanded facilities. With over 5,000sqm of floor space, more computers, and a dedicated space for children, the new library will cater to the growing demands of the community. It will provide yet another place for people to gather offering quiet and separate study areas, a large meeting room, training facilities and larger multilingual collections in more than 10 languages. Community learning programs will be on offer, including adult creative art and fitness classes, children’s art and craft courses, English classes and writing master classes. Also available will be a larger local history collection complete with contemporary and historical information about the City of Willoughby and genealogical resources. Chatswood Library will be equipped with the latest technology including self-checkouts, a modern security system and an automated handling system returning books to the shelves faster for your enjoyment. Expansive, light and tranquil, it will also offer improved access for the elderly and people with disabilities. Demolition of the Civic Centre commenced in January 2008. Construction of The Concourse began in March 2008, and is expected to be completed by late 2011.The latest Government Tenders for The Concourse close on the 24th November 2010.
