To top it all, these cosmetic treatments are pain-free, do not take much time from your busy lives, and the results are dramatic and immediate. Gum Treatment What is gum disease? Gum disease refers to inflammation of the soft tissue (gingiva) and abnormal loss of bone that surrounds the teeth and holds them in place. Gum disease is the second most common cause of toothache. Gum disease is caused by toxins secreted by bacteria in "plaque" that accumulate over time along the gum line. This plaque is a mixture of food, saliva, and bacteria. What are symptoms of gum disease? Early symptoms of gum disease include gum bleeding without pain. Pain is a symptom of more advanced gum disease as the loss of bone around the teeth leads to the formation of gum pockets. Bacteria in these pockets cause gum infection, swelling, pain, and further bone destruction. Advanced gum disease can cause loss of otherwise healthy teeth. Periodontitis It is a progressive inflammatory disease of the gums and the surrounding tissue around the teeth. It is commonly known as gum disease and was referred to as pyorrhea in the old days. It is estimated that up to 80% of the population above the age of 40 may suffer from this disease with the severity varying drastically from one person to another. Periodontitis is the number one cause of tooth loss after the age of 40. If you notice any of the following signs of gum disease, schedule an appointment immediately: 1.Gums that bleed when you brush your teeth 2.Red, swollen or tender gums 3.Gums that have pulled away from the teeth 4.Bad breath that doesn't go away 5.Pus between your teeth and gums 6.Loose teeth 7.A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite 8.A change in the fit of partial dentures Teeth whitening A safe, effective & very fast tooth whitening system in less than one hours time the teeth will become dramatically whiter. It is ideal for anybody looking for immediate results. Hydrogen Peroxide, the active ingredient, has been safely used for many years in the treatment of gums & teeth. The whitening process is effective on most discolored teeth. Darker stains, such as those caused by antibiotics are more difficult to whiten. The degree of whiteness will vary from patient to patient, depending on the structure of the tooth. Porcelain Veneers A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that is bonded onto the front surface of a tooth so to improve its cosmetic appearance. A porcelain veneer can be an ideal way to make a cosmetic change for a tooth. Compared to dental bonding, porcelain veneers usually look more life like and they have the added benefit of resisting staining well. As a disadvantage, porcelain veneers are typically fairly expensive and if used in the wrong application can be prone to breaking. Unlike dental bonding, if a porcelain veneer has broken typically the whole veneer must be replaced. It usually cannot be patched or repaired. They allow successful correction of tooth misalignment, gaps, form and shade, with superb aesthetics. Invisalign Invisalign (sometimes misspelled as Invisaline) clear tooth aligners are one of the more popular alternatives for those who find the idea of a mouthful of metal braces and brackets "" though effective "" too unattractive to commit to. If you are a candidate for Invisalign or other "invisible braces," you don't have to sacrifice your smile while straightening your teeth. Today, Invisalign is a leading brand of orthodontic appliance, primarily because the removable aligners (less than one millimeter thick) are designed to be more esthetically pleasing than conventional wire-and-bracket dental braces for treating certain types of minor misaligned tooth problems. A typical Invisalign treatment requires 20 to 30 aligners for both the upper and lower teeth. Most adults complete their treatment in less than one year. However, treatment time depends. Crowns and Bridges Ceramic crowns can replace damaged teeth that still have their root. Ceramic bridges, on the other hand, serve as a substitution for totally missing teeth. The biggest advantage of crowns and bridges is that they are almost indistinguishable from your natural teeth. They have very similar physical attributes as natural teeth (they expand in the heat and contract in the cold) and naturally transmit light. Are you a good candidate for ceramic crowns and bridges? If you are dissatisfied with the look of your teeth because they are damaged or some are missing, ceramic dental work may be right for you. It is necessary to have an understanding of the colour tone of the crown or bridge. If you want a crown, it is necessary to have a tooth with a preserved root to which the crown can be attached. Ceramic bridges need at least two preserved teeth or dental roots to be attached.
