By: Obinna Heche Home | Health-and-Fitness

We all know that hair loss is a condition that affects huge numbers of people and hair replacement it is big business. It is a very distressing condition for many people, though not for all. The occurrence of hair loss is due to a number of reasons. Genetic hair loss is the body inability to produce new hair rather than loss of hair. The most common type of hair loss is called androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness. Female hair loss is limited to thinning at the front, the sides of the head and the crown.

Actually, the number of women suffering from hair loss is definitely on the rise. Their pattern is the most common type of hair loss among women. Male hair loss is a common problem for a 40 year old men but sometimes it affects even 20-25 year old men. Male hair loss is also known as male pattern baldness. Although hair loss is a mainstream condition, most people fail to realize that permanent loss of hair is a disease. Individuals who take the initiative to understand and manage their condition are often the ones that feel best about themselves.

However, when this cycle is abnormal and hair loss is no longer falling out in a natural random pattern, you may develop a temporary or ongoing disease state. Regardless, the earlier an effective treatment option for the loss is implemented, the better chance you will have of saving hair that has not yet been affected. A well known reasons for hair loss is a hormonal problem but this form of loss is due to the stress of the illness or operation and is usually temporary. So as it is seen that hair loss is sometimes the early sign of a disease, its cause has to be detected.

In fact, hair loss can occur through poor dieting. As we get older, follicles shrink, producing skinnier, shorter strands, then the follicles start to die off. Some women experience hair loss with pregnancy or as part of post pregnancy hormonal changes. Others experience loss of hair when going on or off the birth control pill. Stress, excessive weight loss, iron deficiency and thyroid problems can also cause hair loss. The occurrence of hair loss is due to a number of reasons. But for sure, the most common factor is heredity.

When people are losing their hair, the genes and hormones in their body produce a shrinking effect on the hair follicles, causing them to become incapable of growing new hair. Chemotherapy or radiation therapy may cause hair loss, but hair re-growth occurs after cessation of treatment. Fungus infections of the scalp, also known as ringworm can cause hair loss. Psychological disorder such as trichotillomania may also present with hair loss. People who experience this should see their doctor as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, options for hair loss treatment include the commercial and the natural ones. The most effective ones are those that offer guarantees of reducing excessive hair loss within one week and can be used as stand alone products. The vitamin B, most especially the biotin, aids in maintaining the health of hair. Scalp massage is a traditional hair loss treatment for man. Massaging the scalp stimulates the hair follicles and unclogs blocked oil glands in the scalp. It also encourages growth of healthier hair and scalp.

Tissue expansion is another type of treatment for man. In this procedure, tiny balloons are placed under the scalp between those areas with thick hair. Many people consider dutasteride as the most advanced hair loss baldness treatment to suppress dehydrotestosterone, the main cause of hair fall among men. Pregnancy can trigger hair to get in a growth phase all at the same time rather than the usual pattern of some hair always growing while others are being shed. All these hairs then enter the shedding phase all at once, leading to the disturbing sight of a hundred hairs in the brush.

Be rest assured, the vast majority of the time this lost hair grows back. The normal growth patterns return and only a few dozen instead of a few hundred hairs are lost each day. Most of the time the drastic hair loss only lasts for only three to six months. In the mean time, avoid traumatizing the hair further. Use conditioners and gently comb instead of brushing. Forget about blow drying, do not pull the hair back into tight pony tails. Each individual hair grows about a half inch per month, survives for approximately 4 months. The next time you begin losing large amounts of hair, think about the role of stress and hair loss.
