Hair Replacement - A Prevalent Hair Loss Solution

By: Travis M. Keeler Home | Health-and-Fitness

Hair Replacement is a growing and more prevalent solution for the growing and more prevalent condition of women’s hair loss. When Sharon Serra, a 32-year-old public relations manager from London, UK, began losing her hair unexpectedly she was shocked, embarrassed and didn’t know where to turn. The last thing she was thinking was that she might require hair replacement. It all began one morning when a large mass of her mid-length strands was visible on the left side of her pillow when she opened her eyes that morning. She ran to the mirror but couldn’t see where they had come from. Then she ran to her computer and quickly typed in “hair loss in women.” Nope: She wasn’t old, wasn’t on any medications, aside from daily life at work she wasn’t under any inexplicable stress, she hadn’t had a recent trauma or a baby or a divorce or an illness, nor was her hair loss the result of chemotherapy or menopause! Next she ran to call the dermatologist and made an appointment to find out what was the deal with the strange clump of hair that was still splayed across her pillow.

The appointment at the dermatologist ruled out any infections or fungus or dermatitis. After the exam he told her about an autoimmune disease called Alopecia Areata, which can strike for no apparent reason at all. In fact, doctors don’t know why it happens except that the body’s immune system decides to attack the person’s own hair follicles causing hair to fall out in patches and not grow back in. Sharon begged the dermatologist for a cure, a pill; some kind of cream or medicine that would make her hair grown back. He told her they could try some cortisone injections which work for some patients and a prescription for 5% Minoxidil in case the follicles weren’t dead.

The dermatologist then gave her the names of some good nonsurgical hair replacement studios and told her how science and technology had really caught up with the hair system industry. “Hair Systems? Are you kidding? Do I look like some middle-aged bald guy that would where a hair system?” Sharon wept to the doctor and he tried to explain about beautiful human hair extensions, new types of non-surgical hair replacement solutions that work with existing hair and custom-made wigs and hair systems she could wear to cover her bald patches. He also assured her that she might not lose any more hair even though she might, and that Alopecia Areata occurs randomly.

Sharon clutched the hair replacement studio phone numbers as she trudged out of the doctor’s office. She was glad she didn’t have a husband or kids at home to distract her as she dealt with her new hair loss condition. Every day there was more hair on the pillow and every week Sharon dragged herself to the dermatologist for her treatment without any real success. During that time she called up those hair replacement studios in London and made appointments for consultations. The hair replacement stylists were trained specialists, she was glad to find out, and they really cared. A few of them wore hair systems or had needed a hair replacement solution of their own during some time in their life, too! And through those consultations she started to learn about the quality differences in hair systems she could choose to cover her bald patches.

And she was going to have to cover those bald patches. After all she worked in public relations and arranged events in the fashion and beauty industry for her city. She couldn’t just show up with patchy hair loss - she was going to have to look her hair loss squarely in the eye and choose a hair system and a hair replacement studio to create it and maintain it that would suit her quality needs, time and budget.

In fact, she decided money was no object and wanted the highest quality hair system possible, with the best 100% virgin human hair that matched her own hair. She decided on a “Volumizer” which is a brand of hair system that works with your existing hair and, depending on how much scalp you need to cover. The unit is attached with medical grade-adhesive and her own hair was pulled through so she could shower, swim, sleep, cut and style her hair like usual. What a relief to find out that a hair system could be something beautiful, fashionable.
