Halloween Costumes That Come From The 18th Century

By: Prosperity66 Home | Home-and-Family | Holidays

The period of 100 years between 1700 and 1799 was marked by so many important political and social events, that it is, for us, an inexhaustible supply of Halloween costume ideas: fashion, as we know it today, was born during that time and both ladies and gentlemen competed in terms of fashion and elegance. So, if you are looking for a great Halloween costume idea, you should have a look at the books that talk about the European history during the 18th century. Whether you would like to find a royal costume to wear this Halloween, you should take a look at the clothes worn by royalty in the European courts - especially in countries like England, France and Spain as well as Russia - where clothes were luxurious but different from a country to another one.

Obviously, royalty and nobility are not the only people worth emulating from the 18th century in terms of Halloween costumes. For instance, during this period of time there were pirates sailing across the seas, attacking and robbing ships of various fleets.

The freebooter lifestyle and its consequences have been studied recently in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean"; which makes pirate outfits extremely popular in the present day.. Since the means of transportation were particularly modern during the 18th century, the number of travellers increased, which enabled the pirates to live a very profitable period and this also explains that a lot of history books contain images of pirates garb from this specific period of time.

The 18th century was also a time of revolution. During these years there was the French Revolution and of course the American Revolution that resulted in the birthing of the United States of America. These serious events give you today a wide range of historical costumes to choose from.

You could dress up as a member of the Third Estate, Thomas Jefferson; or even a Redcoat Soldier from Britain with an old time firearm that was used during that period of time. The historical issues that occured during the 1700's, and particularly the revolutions, should give you a lot of ideas for costumes if you are looking to get something done.

Finally, the general dress during that period of time is also something that can give you ideas for Halloween costumes - long jackets, gloves, boots, tricorne for the men and extravagant dresses, bamboo cane decorated with a muslin knot, umbrellas or berg're hat for the women. Magic was certainly a large part of everything in those days and if you would like to relive them through your Halloween costume you should definitely aim as high as you can possibly go.

So, go ahead and, with the help of these these indications, plan and design your winning 1700's Halloween costumes.

Happy Halloween to you!
