While some of these places are just starting up their wind farms and wind energy harnessing technology, other countries have a fully formed plan to use this renewable resource to energy their homes and cities. Much of Europe has begun to build and use wind farms, which are groupings of wind turbines that harness the energy of the wind in order to create energy and electricity. In 2005, the wind energy industry of the United States exceeded all earlier annual records for installed capacity. In areas where the ground is heated faster, the air rises as temperatures go up. The majority of wind power is transferred into energy by the use of turbine blades. In the past ten years, the maximum capacity of wind power installed the world over went from a 1992 high of 2500 megawatts to a high of 40,000 in 2003 and continued to grow each year after that by another 30 percent. Equipment Used In Wind Power Generation Wind turbines are the individual components of wind farms, and they are machinery composed of several main parts. The first part is the rotor, also known as the blades or the propeller, and this is the part of the turbine that actually collects the wind energy and converts it into drive energy, which then turns a shaft. Advantages Of Harnessing The Wind Energy: 1. Wind energy is cleaner, cheaper and more renewable than many of the current sources of energy used in this country. 2. Not only is wind power a renewable energy, but like other renewable energies it gives off no harmful greenhouse gases while being operated - no methane, no carbon dioxide. 3. Wind energy is one of the cleanest and most effective forms of harnessing a renewable form of energy. Some Reason For Harnessing Wind Energy: 1. First, it produces no pollution or greenhouse gases. 2. Fourth, wind power produces more jobs per watt produced than all other energy platforms, including oil and coal. 3. Second, it is renewable and will last for as long as our son about another four billion years. Generating Wind Power From Wind: This process is similar to hydro-power with wind being used instead of water. This process is natural and simple, but produces a monstrous amount of energy. Highly efficient wind turbines are placed in locations where they will receive the maximum amount of wind energy. Some Tips For Generating Wind Energy: 1. The goal is to find locations where wind exists as frequently as possible. 2. Given this situation, ideal locations for wind farms are often along shorelines or in valleys funneling winds from the shore. 3. As each surface heats up, the air rises and cooler air rushes in to replace it. Some Countries Harnessing Wind Energy: 1. There are other countries on the continent of Africa that are trying pilot wind energy projects, both on large scales and small, home based turbine scales. 2. It is particularly prevalent in the United Kingdom. 3. The United States is currently ranked as the third highest wind energy producing country in the world, behind Germany and Spain.
