Hawaii Self Storage - 2007 Self Storage New Facility Of The Year In Nationwide Contest

By: Safety Home | Business

HONOLULU - www.hawaiiselfstorage.com - Hawaii Self Storage today announced that Hawaii Self Storage - Kaimuki is the winner of the 2007 Self Storage New Facility of the Year. The location, which opened in January 2007, received the national honor over hundreds of other entries from across the United States. Considered the self storage industry's highest recognition for excellence, the Self Storage Now! and Mini-Storage Messenger trade publications determine the winner based on performance, unique design and construction, marketing, and innovation and amenities. Winners were named in five categories: Overall, Construction, Conversion, New Facility, and Specialty Storage. The facility was designed by Hawaii architecture firm Kober-Hanssen-Mitchell Architects.

"With the explosion of self storage growth in Hawaii in the last few years, this award is truly an honor," said Shaun Salvador, Hawaii Self Storage Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "It reinforces our belief that we are offering the most innovative services and amenities that the people of Hawaii want, in a convenient, safe and secure location."

Self storage chain - Kaimuki is purpose-built facility that incorporates the best in architectural design and construction to create not only an aesthetically pleasing building, but a functional one as well. The flagship location outpaced 2007 projections, most likely due to its central location and extensive customer amenities, such as a free business center complete with conference room, fax, phone and computer access, state-of-the-art surveillance and security systems, air conditioning, covered loading and unloading, 24-hour access and staffing, impeccable customer service, free receiving of goods and recessed loading dock, to name a few.

Hawaii Self Storage - Kaimuki is quickly becoming a local landmark through the three, hand-crafted Hawaiian-themed mosaics and large clock tower. In fact, this design has become such a hallmark of the property, owners are planning to commission more mosaics for new Hawaii Self Storage locations in Mililani and Kapolei, expected to open this summer. Designers ensured the building stood out from competitors while blending into the community through a subtle color scheme, granite-stone panels and enhanced landscaping. Hawaii Self Storage - Kaimuki also offers 25 percent more cubic space on walk-in units than the competition.

"What also sets us apart is our community pride initiatives," said Salvador. "As a local company, we firmly believe it is our duty to give back, and that's why we've created a number of programs to benefit all aspects of our Hawaii."

The following initiatives are part of Hawaii Self Storage's Community Pride initiative:
oHawaii Self Storage - Kaimuki made a $1,500 donation to help the State Division I High School Champion Boys Basketball Team, The Kaimuki Bulldogs.
oBetween the three locations Hawaii Self Storage now operates (Kaimuki, Pearl City and Salt Lake), it has provided more than $109,000 in $1,000 per year, renewable scholarships for graduating seniors to apply to their higher education costs for up to four years.
oEach Hawaii Self Storage location also sponsors two youth athletic teams, donating approximately $4,000 per facility to the sponsor teams.
oIn addition, in the fall of 2007 Hawaii Self Storage annually collects books to benefit Hawaii Literacy's Book Mobile by offering customers with a $2 credit for every donation. In fall 2007 Hawaii Self Storage's three locations collected more than 4,000 books and educational games.
oIn 2006 Hawaii Self Storage implemented its "Lockers to Literacy" program. With every new locker rental, Hawaii Self Storage donates $2 from its profit to this fund. With lockers turning over an average of once per year, and a total inventory of nearly 5,000 lockers in the three facilities, Hawaii Self Storage expects to purchase more than $9,000 worth of books in 2008 for 15 elementary schools.
oIn 2007 Hawaii Self Storage partnered up with the Lokahi Giving Project that provides people with opportunities to relieve the burden of struggling individuals and families, especially the working "gap group," through donations of goods, cash equivalents, enriching experiences, and advocacy. Hawaii Self Storage is an official drop-off location for the well-known project, raising awareness of the location while giving back to the community by storing these much-needed donations during the fundraising drive.
