Health And Safety Reminders For Tourists

By: DexterNicholson Home | Travel-and-Leisure

Many Australian tourist visa holders would definitely be raring to go and spend their vacation in the country. However, before you can really enjoy your stay in the country, you need to take care of a lot of preparations. And aside from packing your bags and booking your reservations, another thing that you really need to keep in mind is health and safety.

One of the things that you need to watch out for when traveling to Australia are diseases. Thus, to avoid catching them, you should get inoculations even before you leave your home country. Though the disease is not really that prevalent in the country, travelers to Australia are still required by the government to have vaccination against yellow fever, as well as taking in shots against Japanese encephalitis. Also, be sure that you have updated your vaccinations for common diseases such as tetanus.

It would also be a good idea if you have a stash of medicine with you always. Include such cures for common conditions like paracetamol for headaches, as well as special medication that you might need. You can also go further and throw in a first aid kit as well. Important things to include in your kit are a bottle of alcohol, a gauze, some cotton balls and a wound dressing (for instance, betadine). Put everything neatly in a pouch that you can easily carry when traveling.

Another important thing that you need to do is to list down the addresses and phone numbers of the medical facilities in the places you are going to. This you can do early on when planning your trip. This way, you can easily go to them in case of an emergency. Also, be sure to fill up all the emergency information forms that are provided to you.

Being prepared for the actual travel is also a must for tourists. For those planning to travel into the Australian outback, taking plenty of water with you is recommended, as it can be quite hot in the desert. Also, those traveling outdoors need to be wary of wild animals. Sharks, for instance, are very much a threat to beach goers. Always heed the warning signs posted in these areas. Also it would be better if you travel with a partner or in a group and bring in communication equipments, such as cellphones and radios in order to quickly get help in case of emergencies.

Getting yourself an insurance is also a must when traveling. Two of the most important policies that you should get are health and accident insurances. You might also want to get insurances for the more important objects that you are bringing along with you, such as your car, for instance. This can be easily arranged before or after you have landed in Australia.
