Health Care Employment: A Booming Industry

By: Haleigh Mable Home | Business

If you are looking for a recession free job then look no further then health care employment. Even during this economic downturn health care employment is growing. In fact, it is the fastest growing industry during these rough times, so why not get into it. Are you wondering how fast it is growing? Well for about the last 10 years the health care industry has created over 1 million jobs a year and the last two years over 2 million jobs and most experts say that it will only continue this way for at least the next 15-20 years, so why not jump aboard this fast moving employment train?

If you don’t think you are right for health care employment, then let me change your mind. Health care is not just doctor’s, nurses and specialists like surgeons and cardiologists; health care also has administrative jobs, marketing jobs, transcription jobs, sales jobs, IT jobs, and so much more. If you want to find your place in this lucrative field then you will find a job that fits your skills and needs.

If you are looking for health care employment but think you have to be around bodily fluids, don’t worry, there are so many jobs now that you can take which will not take you even close to bodily fluids. For instance, medical transcription has become a very large and much needed profession in health care. Every time you go to see a doctor there has to be a written record made; doctor’s don’t have time for this anymore so they hire medical transcriptionists who type it up all up for them. There are also a lot of management opportunities at every hospital where your job is all about the paperwork and not actually dealing with any patients. Or if you can handle some bodily fluids but don’t want it to be your life’s work you can become an RN and work your way up to a managing RN role or just apply to a ward that doesn’t see much bodily fluid.

If you want to get into this booming industry but don’t want to go through the years upon years of education required, then there are still plenty of positions for you. Medical billing and coding is needed at every hospital and doctor’s office and you can find programs to get your certificate in about 2 years. Another great choice would be phlebotomy, or the blood takers, this usually only requires 9-12 months of school, but you can get a job for the red cross, medical labs, or many hospitals.

What if you just got out of high school and you want to get into the health care industry but not sure how. First off, good job on thinking about your future so young because this will certainly give you a fantastic life. What you will want to do is start searching, you can look online, in your local paper or even go to the hospital and talk to a supervisor. If you have a friend that works at a hospital see if there are any open positions you can apply for.

What type of jobs will you get with just a diploma? Well they may not be the most fabulous jobs but they will get you in the door and pay better then the same work elsewhere. You may be a janitor, candy striper, or work in the cafeteria. Once you get in you can start making friends, talking to people and finding out what type of job you might like to get educated in. Plus when you’re done with college you will have all that wonderful hospital experience on your resume.
