Healthy Skin Nutrition And Vitamin A

By: Sara Musfeldt Home |

Like all areas of health, you should always look to your diet for solutions to any ailment you may have. So if you struggle with unhealthy skin like acne or dry/flaky skin, then vitamin A is likely to be the answer. Vitamin A is a critical component of maintaining healthy skin because it helps to rebuild cells.

Vitamin A is created from retinol and beta-carotene, which are considered pre-vitamin A. With enough pre-vitamin A the body can manufacture its own supply of vitamin A. Consuming the right vegetables and animal products you are giving your body what it needs. However, you can try taking a vitamin A supplement of no more than 25,000 international units a day (more than this can be toxic) for optimal consumption.

These are foods rich in vitamin A:

Spinach

Sweet potatoes

Carrots

Cantaloupe

Mangoes

Liver

Beef

Egg yolks

Milk

Mozzarella cheese

With the proper amounts in your system, lesions and pimples will heal quicker, and you are less likely to have dry and flaky skin. Another great benefit of vitamin A is that it reduces acne. Studies have found that those with severe acne also have low levels of vitamin A in their diet, which links the two closely. Acne sufferers should not only modify their diet and take a supplement, but there are also topical skin care products that contain vitamin A, though these products are often advertised as containing retinol.

Once your skin is under control you'll be happy to know that vitamin A is also an antioxidant and good for your eyesight, immune system, bone strength, and digestive system. All in all, vitamin A is an excellent part of your overall fitness, especially your skin fitness.
