Headache is a term used to describe aching or pain that occurs in one or more areas of the head, face, mouth, or neck. Some people say the pain is like a band slowly tightening around their head. Others describe pain that worsens when someone turns on a light. Both are descriptions of headaches. The pain can be mild or severe enough to disrupt daily activities. The migraine headache is one of the worst headaches known to mankind. These headaches render the afflicted completely debilitated until the pain and migraine headache symptom or symptoms pass. Even then the person will need time to recover as dealing with severe pain, which is only one migraine headache symptom, is very exhausting. Migraine headaches can be debilitating. They are by far the most severe headaches you can have. A migraine often starts with light sensitivity and is sometimes accompanied by nausea or vomiting. The severe headache will begin shortly after these symptoms have started. Over the counter medications such as aspirin may do little to help ease the pain. There are basically two types of migraine: one without aura (a group of visual symptoms) which is characterized by nausea, vomiting and visual disturbances; and with aura which has warning signals like flashing lights before the eyes. A migraine can last from three hours to three days. Menstrual periods and certain specific foods are supposed to be the main reasons and that is why women are more susceptible to migraine than men. Apply pressure to the area where your thumb and index finger connect. Apply as much pressure as you can stand for a minute or so. As time passes while you are doing this, you will notice the pain in the head start to subside. This is a great acupressure treatment that works quite well. Do NOT use this technique if you are pregnant. Doing so can cause abdominal contractions and may result in premature delivery. While the majority of causes for migraine headaches are still a mystery, it has been observed that the migraine can be controlled with home remedies, over-the-counter medicines and a lot of sleep. Further, drinking hot herbal tea also has proved beneficial. Chamomile tea and green tea have been observed to have a very soothing effect when migraine strikes. Ginseng is one of the more popular herbal remedies used for treating migraines. Some people like to take capsules of Ginseng on a daily basis since this herb works wonders when it comes to headache prevention. Others prefer to get their dose of daily Ginseng through the consumption of delectable Ginseng teas. What's nice about Ginseng is that it is an herb that offers additional benefits to the individual that consumes it. Migraine remedies is aromatherapy, a method known to induce relaxation of the senses with the use of particular scents from essential oils. There are primarily used during a massage treatment to decrease the tension and stress felt by the body. Oil types such as borage, kukui, and rose hip are versatile enough to handle different skin conditions, while hazelnut specializes in treating oily skin during a massage. Certain foods appear to trigger headaches in some people. Common offenders include alcohol, especially beer and red wine; aged cheeses; chocolate; fermented, pickled or marinated foods; aspartame; overuse of caffeine; monosodium glutamate â€" a key ingredient in some Asian foods; certain seasonings; and many canned and processed foods. Skipping meals or fasting also can trigger migraines.
