Herbal Remedy For Premenstrual Syndrome

Every woman knows about PMS or Pre menstrual syndrome leaving some exceptional cases where a women is completely spared by the physical and behavioral changes that characterize pre menstrual syndrome.

Almost 150 physical and behavioral symptoms are associated with PMS which also complicates the diagnosis process and also makes it difficult to classify the condition as a specific disease.

Symptoms for PMS can begin from anytime after the ovulation that occurs approximately two weeks before the start of your menstruation cycle. These symptoms include cramps in various organs, swelling and tenderness in the breasts, temporary weight gain of some pounds, skin blemishes or acne, headaches, nausea or constipation followed by diarrhea at the onset of menstruation, increase in appetite or thirst, craving for certain food items such as sweets or items with high quantity of salt, increased irritability or mood swings, fatigue or insomnia, confusion or forgetfulness, feelings of anxiety or loss of control, sadness or uncontrolled crying etc.

Studies show that a lack of various nutrients can increase PMS symptoms. These include magnesium, calcium, vitamin D, B vitamins, iron and zinc. In one study, it was revealed that 50-80% of women with PMS were deficient in magnesium. Regular take of Vitamin B6 supplements and magnesium supplements seem to work for all women.

Acupuncture can relieve pain and stress for any ailment so it is worth a try for PMS. Same goes for massage to relax the cramps. The dominance of estrogen in relation to progesterone causes the problem for the PMS. A diet rich in plant-based phytoestrogens is excellent, but soy should be avoided, as it has been shown to increase estrogen excessively.

The herbal approach uses botanic medicines that favorably influence the estrogen-progesterone ratio through a variety of mechanisms. The final result is the reestablishment of the body's ability to produce a balanced and timely supply of hormones throughout the menstrual cycle. For the PMS mental stress involves in triggering the PMS symptoms. Exercise lifts the mood. It reduces stress, tension and anxiety. By adding in a 30 minute brisk walk or other activity several times a week, people will be able to suppressing the pain and the stress. Stretching also helps the muscles relax.

PMS is still considered as a largely mysterious phenomenon by the medical community and had been a subject for research and some ongoing studies.
