What is blood pressure?

If your blood pressure is higher, there are small changes you can make in diet and lifestyle that will help you check it and bring it to more normal levels.

High blood pressure
High blood pressure also known as hypertension occurs when the blood has persistent and abnormally high pressure in the arteries and circulation. High blood pressure is defined as systolic blood pressure equal to or greater than 140 mmHg, while diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg or more. These prices should be lower if you have diabetes or have multiple risk factors for atherosclerosis.

It is important to know if you have high blood pressure. The good news is that you can easily learn to deal with changes in lifestyle and medicines. If you suffer from high blood pressure and the problem is not diagnosed and treated early, can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke or kidney problems.

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so you may have it for a long time without knowing. The best way is to count on your physician, a nurse, a pharmacy or clinic of your company.

Causes of high blood pressure
There are several reasons why you may develop high blood pressure:
* Age - half of people over 60 have high blood pressure
* Genetic differences - high blood pressure is sometimes hereditary, while blacks are more likely to express
* If you are overweight, have diabetes or kidney disease
* Dietary factors, such as high salt intake and alcohol

What changes you make to your lifestyle to control your blood pressure?
The good news is that some very simple changes in diet and lifestyle can help reduce your blood pressure.

Some positive steps you can do are:
* Lose weight if you are overweight
* Increase your activity levels
* Avoid smoking
* Follow a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables
* Reduce consumption of salt and choose dairy products with low fat
* Limit alcohol consumption
