Hiring A Live In Nanny Can Relieve The Pressure Of Modern Life

By: Dominic Donaldson Home |

The pressure on parents has never been greater. Pressure at home and pressure at work seem to be a constant fixture in the make-up of modern life.

The harder we work, the harder we seem to have to work. It can be a debilitating experience. On top of this there is often the added pressure of bringing up children.

With this mounting personal and professional workload many parents are looking at ways to ease the burden without compromising the well being of their family and the lifestyle they have built for themselves.

One area that is more popular than ever is that of the 'Live in Nanny'. Traditionally the live in nanny was the preserve of the rich and the upper classes but it is now an affordable and attractive option for most working families.

Many families are recognizing the need for extra help throughout the day. Having a live in nanny can transform the dynamic of a family environment for the better and help parents focus there energies where they are most needed rather than spreading themselves thin and feeling as if there contribution is not enough.

With more agencies starting up and the welfare and care of children becoming paramount in light of recent, tragic abuse cases the quality of live in nannies has also improved. The area is not yet government regulated so it is vital to check references but agencies will help with this.

With the demand for live in nannies growing and the industry becoming more competitive agencies are making sure that they provide a comprehensive service which includes a thorough vetting and checking process.

There are basically two types of service that most of these new or reputable agencies provide; nannies and housekeepers. Both can be live in, full time or part time.

Most agencies are very flexible and will be able to accommodate your specific needs. Live in nannies make up about 20 per cent of the UK market for nannies; a figure which is growing.

If you decide that it's a nanny you need, rather than a housekeeper, there are three types to choose from:

1. A daily nanny - This type of nanny comes to your home at designated times each day. Tasks allotted to the nanny will also have been pre-agreed. A daily nanny will not stay with the family.

2. Live in nanny - This type of nanny lives in your house as a member of the family. They will need to have a private bedroom and food for them must be provided. The advantage over a daily nanny is that they are always on hand in case of emergency and there is opportunity to build a good relationship with them and the rest of the family.

3. Nanny share - This nanny works for two family and divides their time accordingly. If they work for any more they need to be registered as a child minder. Often the two families are familiar to each other but not always.

Nannies can provide a wide range of childcare options and help for busy parents. Many reputable agencies will only take on people who have experience in some area of childcare such as teaching or midwifery.

This experience can be invaluable and provide you with the piece of mind that you need from someone you are will to place such trust with.

It is important to weight up all the options available to you before committing; it's a big step inviting someone into your home and you need to get it right. Factors such as nationality, age and personality all need to be looked at before you make any decision.
