History And Importance Of Credit Score

By: Kaushal Sheth Home |

The history of your credit is maintained and that information is forwarded to companies, banks, and landlords who request the information. Each time you apply for a credit card or loan, the creditor, be it the bank, credit card company or any lending institution, will look at your credit score along with the history of your credit, analyze it, and it will tell the lenders or credit card companies if you pay your bills on time and if you are credit worthy.

Knowing how your credit score is determined is very important, as you could even be denied phone service in your own home, if you have a bad credit score. With busy lives, many Americans tend to overlook their credit histories to their detriment, as it does have meaning for you now and for your future. Maintaining a good credit rating is important, so let us look at how your credit score is determined.

The higher your credit score the better it is for you, and credit score agencies maintain these records over time. Each time it is reported that you failed to pay your bills on time your credit score goes down, conversely, if you pay your bills as agreed to your credit score will go up. Your creditors that are your bank, your credit card company or any lender will make a report to the reporting agency, and they will determine your credit score based on these reports. Just as a negative report can lower your credit score, you can improve your credit score by paying your bills as promised, on time, because these numbers are not static and can change based on the reporting of your creditor.

For the reasons mentioned it is important to keep up with your credit score. You can order your credit history through the three major credit reporting agencies in the United States. These credit bureaus will issue one free report per year upon your request, and do request them. You want to check them thoroughly to make sure there are no errors that result in a lowered or bad credit rating. Before you apply for a credit card or loan you want to check your credit score, and history, to assure that you will get that credit card or loan as a rejected application, because of a low or bad credit score, can lower your credit rating even more.

So, don't forgo that phone in your home. Get the best apartment or home you can afford. The best loan deals are offered to those with good credit histories, and the interest rate on that credit card you applied for is decided based on your credit score, so maintain your good credit, or work on raising it if you must. One never knows when a financial opportunity will present itself and you want to be ready, so it is a must that you keep your credit rating up there on the high side.
