The History of Islam seeks to study Islam's past. These books have been written by Washington Irving, Muhammad Abdullah Enan, Henry George Farmer, Clement Huart, De Lacy O'Leary, Gulbadan Bano, Miguel Asin, T.W. Arnold, A.J. Arberry, E.G.Browne, Henry Charles Lea, Ruqaiyyah Waris Maqsood, Stanley Lane-Poole, Syed Abdul Latif, Azizur Rahman, H.A.R. Gibb, J.C.Broadhurst and Hasanuddin Ahmed. The Alhambra is a personal study reflecting the writer's enchantment with the splendours of the palace and his close knowledge of the Muslims of Spain. A unique feature of the book is that not many could then write about Spain or anything Spanish so naturally. The book is made alluring by the simplicity and sincerity of style. This book will have added allure owing to the writer's heightened sense of observation. Islam and the Divine Comedy studies the Hadith literature relating to the Prophet Muhammad and his ascension (mi'raj) and to the spiritual visions of Ibn al-Arabi. This book aroused a storm as Christians could not reconcile themselves to the thought of their most cherished religious poem being based on non-Christian sources. Humayun Nama or the History of Humayun was written by Gul Badan Begum, daughter of Zahruddin Muhammad Babar. This history is unique as it was written by a Muslim lady during Mughal rule. A Concise History of Islam recounts the rise of the people of Islam and recounts their position at the peak of human civilization for eight hundred years. This book has colourful and vivid biographical sketches by innumerable Islamic jurists, astronomers, scientists, litterateurs and men of letters down the ages from the seventh to the 15th century A.D. Some of the prominent themes dealt with in this book are relations with non-Muslims, unity of revelation, marital life, slavery, Hadith and Sunnah, Islamic jurisprudence, Sufism and different historical periods. The travels of Ibn Battuta traces the travels of the great traveller Ibn Battuta through the words of Ibn Jubayr. The book is an interesting account of travels in the fourteenth century even if it is not always accurate in chronology. The Travels of Ibn Jubayr is the account of a mediaeval Spanish Muslim who visited Mecca. Medina, Egypt, the Middle East and Sicily. This book is provided with full notes that include not only notes of a specialist character but also those that will entertain the general reader. It adopts the approach of history reading being an entertaining venture. A History of Arabian Music traces the development of Arab music in well defined historical epochs such as of the orthodox Khalifs, the Umayyads, and of the Abbasids. Decisive Moments in the History of Islam traces the encounter of Islam and Christianity. With the exception of a few chapters it has a harmonious unity.
