Holidays To South Africa †Handy Tips

By: Joe Smith Home | Travel-and-Leisure

South Africa, with its enticing holiday destinations like Cape Town, Johannesburg, Eastern Cape remains one of the most popular vacationing spot for millions of travellers. Hundreds of restaurants churning out unforgettable cuisines, a high voltage nightlife, and amazing wildlife †these are a few of the rewards of going on holidays to South Africa. Several tour operators offer cheap holidays and special travel deals to the country. To make the most of your South Africa holidays, check out some travel information on the country.

Visas

According to the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), British citizens planning to take holidays to South Africa for less than 90 days do not need to carry a visa. Visitors planning to go on longer South Africa holidays need to get extensions of stay from the Department of Home Affairs. Anyone overstaying without proper authorisation would attract a fine and can be barred from visiting the country in the future. In fact, authorities can even arrest travellers who have overstayed for a long period. The defaulters may be deported back at their own expense. This will ruin one’s painfully planned cheap South Africa holidays.

Passport

According to the FCO guidelines, the passports of British nationals should be valid for at least 30 days from the last day of their intended visit to South Africa. Ensuring that there are two blank pages in the passport before arriving in the country is advisable as well. Just being mindful of these visa and passport requirements will go a long way towards ensuring wrinkle free cheap South Africa holidays.

Health Requirements

Travellers going on Holidays to South Africa from a yellow fever afflicted region are required to provide a yellow fever certificate. This certificate should have been issued at least 10 days before arriving in South Africa. In fact, travellers without a valid certificate may well find that their holidays to South Africa will come to an end even before they enter the country. In simple words, such visitors may well be denied permission to enter South Africa.

Minors Travelling on their Own

Many of the airlines offering travel deals to South Africa provide travel service for unaccompanied minors in the age group of 5 to 15 years. This service ensures that child boards the flight, is introduced to the concerned airline personnel, is assisted during connections and finally taken safely to the correct person who comes to take the child upon arrival at the destination. Here is a look at some information that an airline might require for offering this service.

1.Specific information on the mental and physical health of the child
2.Language or languages spoken by the child
3.Name, address, and contact number of the person who would receive the child at the destination airport.

Best Time to Visit South Africa

Be it sightseeing in Cape Town or exploring places like Eastern Cape and Johannesburg, there are different best times for planning cheap holidays to the country. The best time depends upon what travellers plan to do in the country. For instance, August to October is best for exploring the jungles, while mid June to October end is best for watching Southern whales.
