Holistic Therapy: Finding The Right Treatment Facility For Substance Abuse And Emotional Disorders

By: Hillary Lane Home |

A growing number of people are suffering from emotional disorders and substance abuse. Finding the right treatment facility is critical in recovery. The following paragraphs will outline how to choose an effective treatment program, explain the importance of holistic therapy, and discuss the impact one Florida substance abuse and psycho-emotional treatment program has had on recovery.

When choosing a treatment plan for substance abuse or emotional disorders, it is important to consider the depth and breadth of treatment. Many substance abuse rehab and mental health treatment programs are beginning to recognize that addressing mind, body, and spirit in their treatment approaches provides the client with a well-rounded and comprehensive method for sobriety and recovery. However, by understanding and treating the clients' environment, recovery and sobriety can become even more successful as a comprehensive approach is taken to the healing process.

In addition, holistic therapy is an important approach to take when choosing a substance abuse and emotional disorder treatment program. Holistic therapy strives to treat all aspects of the illness and the whole individual. Unlike other treatment programs that focus on one form of rehabilitation, an alternative approach allows the most effective recovery to take place.

Furthermore, when choosing a treatment facility for substance abuse and emotional disorders, it is important to choose a facility that emphasizes a change in thinking in its therapeutic programming through the use of in-directive and metaphorical techniques, because the best therapeutic result occur when the client is brought to his/her own conclusion. Rather than employing a directive and controlling approach, like some substance abuse treatment services practice, that may produce a defensive attitude by the client and hamper the change process, the in-directive and metaphorical techniques allow the client to come to his/her own conclusion. This yields a more productive therapeutic result, not only in the clients' behaviors but also in their thinking, sobriety, and recovery.

Alternative Treatment International, a Florida substance abuse and psycho-emotional treatment program, has included the environment in their total healing philosophy and process. As the client understands that healing one's own environment and building a consciousness of caring for and healing the planet, they also begin to realize that they can help heal themselves. This form of holistic therapy is particularly beneficial for drug and alcohol abuse clients as well as those suffering from depression and other emotional problems because causes them to become more selfless in their approach to the world around them and it raises their thinking to a higher level, which in turn helps to heal themselves.

Healing the Mind incorporates group and individual therapies, written and reading assignments and study; healing the Body includes a comprehensive physical fitness program that is designed for each individual addressing his/her specific fitness deficiencies; healing the Spirit encompasses assisting each client to reconnect with their Self" and adopt and practice a spiritual exercise which could include, meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi, or some other spiritual practice which best suits the client's specific orientation; and, healing the Environment promotes an understanding and consciousness of proactively healing the client's personal living environment as well as becoming aware of the global environment in general.

When clients are taught to heal the environment around them as part of their therapeutic recovery process while in our residential setting, they have the opportunity to practice raising their consciousness. By this, they help to heal themselves in a mindful and purposeful way.
