Home Espresso Made To Order

By: John Rose Home | Food-and-Drink | Coffee

If you are a coffee lover you probably absolutely love a good cup of espresso but can you make a decent cup of espresso at home? Well you certainly can make a decent cup of home espresso if you have the equipment to do it. A coffee specialty shop will usually have a fairly expensive commercial espresso maker which they use to make many cups of espresso every day. Over the years some of these espresso machines have been designed and or modified for home use. The better ones are still quite expensive but they will give good value if they are utilized over time. The higher quality machines are meant to last more than a couple of years and can be repaired if they break down. Good home espresso is a real possibility.

Generally when you are choosing freshly roasted coffee beans for your home espresso maker you will have to decide what blend of beans you want. If you are new to making espresso you should try out some blends first. Perhaps choose beans from different growing areas. If you already know you don’t like certain types of beans for your regular coffee do not use that bean blend for your espresso blend because the taste you don’t like will only be intensified in an espresso maker.

If you have a local coffee roaster then you can visit them and get some coffee beans. Or you can order freshly roasted coffee beans over the internet. There are many specialty coffee bean roasters who sell their products on their website and they can get those beans to you fast. Freshly roasted coffee beans do reach their peak of flavor within two days but will still be good for brewing for about two weeks so a mail order of coffee beans is always possible. And if you don’t have a super experienced palate with freshly roasted coffee beans you probably won’t realize much difference between two weeks or a few weeks so long as you have stored the beans correctly. They should be stored in an airtight container in a cool dry place. Some say you can freeze coffee beans but that is up to you.

When you visit a local roaster you can learn about the different types of coffee bean blends that are good for a home espresso maker. This way you can learn about different aspects of coffee beans which is always helpful when you are choosing coffee to make and drink.

Also if you have an espresso maker at home you will need to practice with it until you discover the best way to use and make espresso at home. Some of thee machines can be quite complex and require a learning curve. Also you need to invest in a really good coffee bean grinder because the grinder is what actually grinds the beans and if it is of poor quality it may not grind the beans but shred them so you have lots of residue left in grind which doesn’t make good espresso.
