Home Remedies For Headaches

By: Sandra Stammberger Home | Health-and-Fitness | Alternative-Medicine

Everyone gets headaches from time to time, and there are hundreds of over the counter products that can help alleviate our symptoms. However, it isn't always necessary to fill our bodies with these drugs after all; people had headaches long before Tylenol was invented. Here are some home remedies that allegedly work.

Place an ice-cold piece of cooking foil on your forehead. According to a doctor who has been studying headaches the foil actually cools the blood and the headache subsides very quickly.

Pressing an ice cube wrapped in a white towel against your forehead soothes a headache after about half an hour.

At the other end of the temperature scale is a home remedy involving a bath full of hot water. You need to kneel in the bath so that you can place your head in the water. While your head is under the water, blow air out of your nose, then lift your head and take a deep breath. If you repeat this at least six times before lying back and relaxing, your headache will subside.

Placing a black cloth over your eyes, then applying pressure to your temples and on the bridge of your nose is meant to help with sever headaches.

There are numerous home remedies that relate to creating your own healing mixture. Here are a few of the recipes for you to try.

Mixture 1:
Two tablespoons of mint
Juice of one squeezed lime
Two cloves of garlic
One tablespoon of honey
Three cups of boiling water

Mixture 2:

Ginger
Hot water
Honey
Potato starch

Dehydration is often a cause of headaches. One simple home remedy is to drink lots of water.

Decreased sugar intake can also lead to headaches. This is why drinking honey in water is often suggested by a lot of people to get rid of a headache.

A tension headache can be eased by massaging a few drops of peppermint oil into your temples. Apparently the peppermint appears to prevent your body from sending pain signals to your central nervous system.

Obviously, your headache can be caused by a number of different factors, and it is important to seek medical advice if it does not subside after a day in case it indicates something more serious.
