In the past a person would have found it hard to discover a good home treatment for acne, however excellent over the counter acne products are now are readily available and extremely effective.

Today's acne sufferers have a skin disorder which caused by a combination of different conditions. It is a known fact that hair follicles on the face not only contain hair, but also a gland known as the Sebaceous gland. The secreted oil from the sebaceous gland keeps the skin moisturized, however the problem that acne sufferers have to address is that the oil often gets trapped in the hair follicle causing a pimple to form. A common bacteria found on the skin is called Propionibacterium; when this bacteria is present it feeds off of the overproduction of oil and the body's natural defense sends white blood cells to respond to the bacteria, which results in inflammation and blotchy skin so adopting a Home treatment for acne can help control this cycle and keep acne at bay.

Before we look at the best acne skin care product there are a few basic hygiene rules that must be adhered to. When you begin treating acne at home it is imperative that you wash the affected areas several times a day. Make sure to use water based products as they don't contain the oil that is present in creams which can actually can cause more problems with the skin. Be sure to inquire at pharmacy or drug store before you purchase certain makeup products such as foundation cream and other skin makeup;ask what ingredients are contained in them to see if they are a suited to your skin and above all avoid zit popping.

You can use quite a few over the counter skin care products as most of the products used for the home treatment for acne include Benzoyl peroxide which can be found in skin products such as Clearasil, it is also known as Benzac or Benoxy and is commonly used to help unclog pores, thus preventing the acne cycle from beginning.

There are a few over the counter products which actually peel the top layer of skin these include ingredients such as Alpha Hydroxyl acid and Salicyclic Aciid. When using these products for treating acne it is extremely important that the directions are followed to the letter, and if you are unsure consult a skin specialist or doctor.

One of the natural products used for home treatment for acne is tea tree oil as it helps to kill the bacteria that causes acne; this oil is also found in many of the best acne skin care products. There are other natural oils can also be used which include Bergamont oil, Lavender Oil and Rosewood Oil. These natural oils can be found at most health food stores.

The other home treatment which is becoming more readily available as the home kits become cheaper is Light therapy for acne. It has shown to be a promising break through and works by utilizing a blue or a red light wave. The FDA has approved this process for mild to moderate acne. Light therapy for acne, involves exposing the skin to the light for about 20 to 30 minutes and uses a blue ray to destroy the bacteria Propionibacterium. The red light used in light therapy for acne helps to reduce the swelling and inflammation caused by the white blood cells.

In the end, the final choice for your treatment will be up to you. Use these valuable tips for treating your condition, however it is important to always remember to follow the directions and use the products responsibly; if there is any doubt as to their effects consult the pharmacist or doctor.
