Hone Your Skills In Vancouver Goalie Camps

By: Glenn Wheeler Home | Recreation-and-Sports

There are many hockey camps around because hockey is a very popular sport for the youth. One equally important role in the game of hockey is the role that is assumed by the goalie. The goalie is the ultimate defender, the individual on the ice who is responsible for not letting the other team score even if that other team managed to run through all other defenses. In short, the goalie is the last bastion of strength that keeps one’s team from being one score lower than the other. As a result of being aware of the importance of goalies, there are many goalie camps being developed to help this particular individual learn how to perform his role better for the benefit of the entire team.

Goalie camps are usually part of the overall hockey camps, but they have special sessions among themselves because of the uniqueness of their role in the game. For individuals tasked with such a role, they would best attend many goal tending programs to help their game become a more professional one. Goal tending programs on ice are quite rigorous. The usual amount of time one spends in a goalie camp or a goal tending program is six days a week, for a total of twenty two and a half hours each week. Most of the training one gets from these goalie programs are done in the ice centers which operate all year round. This type of goalie camp is ideal for those who are starting out as goalies and want to improve their game.

If you already consider yourself to be a seasoned goalie player, there is another program for you which you can enroll in. Goalie camps usually have a special goalie program for the superstars, for six days a week and fifteen hours per week. This program is both on-ice and off-ice training for goaltenders that consider themselves to be elite players of the game yet still desire overall improvement of their skills as well as enhanced knowledge about their position. The sessions for goaltenders usually last for an hour and twenty minutes each day and run for six days a week. Aside from this, the goalies are also expected to participate in an entire week’s session of interactive team training. Here, they will also engage in realistic game situations for fifteen whole hours. The total time of training on the ice for one whole week runs for twenty two and a half hours †enough hours to ensure the right solo goalie training and with the entire team as well.

Wondering what you ought to expect from the one-ice goalie sessions? There will be a lot of live shooting using multiple nets, high ratio of instructor to goalies in order to teach all there is to know about goal tending depending on the skill level of each goalie enrolled in the program. The highly advanced strategies and the techniques will also be taken into consideration so that all goalies, regardless of skill, will emerge from the goalie camps as better players.
