Hormone Free Whey Protein

By: Gaye Sougstad Home | Health-and-Fitness | Nutrition

Hormone free whey protein is one of the best ways to supply your body with the essential amino acids it needs to repair itself and to grow. Essentially our body is made up of amino acids and these can be considered the 'building blocks of life', this is then what our body looks for in order to build muscle, to repair wounds, to replace cells and to maintain healthy skin and hair. Without the amino acids we would find ourselves with slow healing of wounds and unable to build the muscle we need (which would in turn result in our muscle wasting). Thus it is paramount that we get sufficient qualities of protein one way or another.

In fact it is paramount that we get all, or as close to all, of the various amino acids at the same time. The reason for this is that different amino acids are used for different tasks in the body. The thing is though, that if the body doesn't have access to the specific amino acid it needs at the specific time it needs it, then it won't be able to use it later. In other words that job simply won't be done.

Of course the idea is to get protein from our diets, but in actual fact it is very hard to get all of the amino acids we need from our diet as few protein sources contain all of them. At the same time the protein sources we normally get (things like beef and pork) don't normally have the right 'bio availability' meaning that we can't utilise 100% of the protein in them. What we also get though is the fat and the carbs meaning that to eat the right amounts of protein this way would be quite fattening (and not particularly pleasant). Hormone free whey protein then gives us a great way to get the extra amino acids in our system without the additional carbs or fat and without spoiling our appetite. Most hormone free whey protein comes in a variety of flavours such as strawberry and chocolate meaning it's actually very tasty too which is a huge bonus.

There are concerns that some forms of protein shake that come from soy contain oestrogen. As protein shakes are often used by bodybuilders and oestrogen actually results in less muscle mass (due to its combating the effects of testosterone) this is reason enough for that type of protein to be far less desirable. There is little evidence to suggest this is in fact the case, however the safer option still remains hormone free whey protein.

This protein is made from a bi-product of the cheese making process meaning that it's actually found in milk anyway. This means it's completely healthy and natural and perfect as a way to get your amino acids (and of course tastes great with milk). For the best way to get all the benefits from increasing the amount of protein in your diet then, there is nothing better than hormone free whey protein.
