Horse Betting Odds Let You Win Without Winning

By: Max Broad Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Figuring out horse betting odds seems intimidating; there are many factors which go into a horse race which can affect the outcome of the race. There are also many factors which captivate our imaginations, but ultimately have nothing to do with who will win the race. If you break all of the elements of horse betting odds down, it can be a lot of fun. If you really figure out horse betting odds, it can be profitable. Because there are so many factors which can influence a race, horse betting odds allow you to win even when your horse does not come in first.

Long ago, probably the second time two people mounted horses and set off towards a finish line, people realized that while seeing who crossed the line first was a thrill, there were more thrills to be had in setting horse betting odds.

In a race among horses A, B, C, and D, let's say we know Horse A is usually the fastest on any given day, so the odds favor Horse A. If one day, Horse B beats Horse A, our instincts say, it should mean a little more because B beat the odds. We all want to beat the odds against us; horse betting odds reward us for doing just that.

The beauty of horse betting odds is you don't need your horse to cross the finish line first. If you bet on a horse to "win," you win if the horse crosses the finish line first, but if you bet on a horse to "place," you win if the horse crosses the finish line in either the first or second position. To "show," you win for either first, second or third place. So you see, you can win without winning.

From win, place and show we can build up variations for more chances to win. An "exacta" means you pick which horse will come in first and which horse will come in second. As if that is not enough, some tracks will allow you to play a "trifecta" where, you guessed it, you pick which horse will come in first, which will come in second, and which will come in third.

Horse betting odds don't stop with these variations, horse racing breeds imagination.

So you see, when you break it down horse betting odds become a little less mysterious and a lot more fun. For people who want to take the plunge into horse betting, there is no need to trot out to the racetrack. You can bet from the comfort of your nearest internet connection. Look for well structured and established sites such as www.sportsbook.com which will provide specific information about the horse betting odds of your choice.
