Hosting A Theme Wedding? Ideas & Tips To Make It Unforgettable

By: Mary W Brophy Home | Home-and-Family

One of the most modern trends of weddings today is hosting a memorable bash with an elaborately planned theme. Brides from all over are looking for ways to have the most creative and unforgettable ceremony and reception. Creating a theme will add your own personal touch to your wedding day, and you can be as bold - or as subtle - as you like. A theme will add a sense of continuity to the various parts of your day, and you'll have fun finding all the matching components.

Finding a Theme

A theme can grow from the most unexpected idea or memory. It's a good idea to choose your theme before you get too far along in the process, so you can apply it to as many elements as you wish. Brainstorm with your fianc to find an idea that appeals to both of you. It could be as simple as a color combination or a pattern, such as polka dots or stripes. It could stem from a shared memory, such as a trip to Italy or a joint love of a certain hobby or sport. Or it could just be a word that serves as inspiration - like "funky" or "royal." You may choose to apply the theme to just a few parts of your wedding, like your cake and your invitations.

Some couples may decide to go all out with a unique theme, and incorporate the idea into their costumes, the food, the music, and virtually all aspects of the day. You may want to look into the newest trend, a personalized wedding tote which may be blend of your theme and monogram. No matter what your plans, make sure you are both comfortable and capable with implementing what you choose.

A Few Ideas

If you are having trouble coming up with a theme as unique as you are, don't despair! If your wedding falls close to a holiday, consider hosting a Christmas or Valentine themed event. Do you love history? A renaissance or medieval wedding could be for you. Maybe there is an animal you've always loved - why not have a butterfly or dolphin themed event. Are you famous for a certain collection, or are you marrying at a unique location, like a winery or an old movie theater? As you can see, the ideas are endless.

Making Your Life Easier

A theme wedding might sound daunting, but it will really make your life easier! Why? There are so many wedding options available out there, that narrowing it down will make most steps simpler. Imagine - instead of looking at thousands of colors of ribbon, suddenly you are looking for fall colors, or ribbon printed with palm trees.

Incorporating Your Theme

There are so many different ways you can incorporate your theme into your wedding day - but it all starts with the invitations. When a guest receives an invite in the mail, it is like a "sneak peek" of your big day. You can then carry the theme through to the other aspects of your big day. Be creative! For example, maybe you've decided to host a Hawaiian themed wedding. Aside from the typical beach-style decorations, do one or two unexpected gestures that will delight your guests. Greet guests at the reception with leis for around their neck, and have Hawaiian dancers perform for entertainment.

Creating a unique theme will not only make your wedding stand out - coordinating your decorations, favors, menu, dresses, bride tote bag and other items will give your day a professional edge. Celebrate your love and remember to have fun - the ultimate theme is your love for each other!
