Hotels - Lanzarote

By: D Collins Home | Travel-and-Leisure

Many Britons head to Spain during the holiday season to escape the dreary weather and soak up a bit of sun.

One of the most popular destinations for tourists looking to soak up the sun is the island of Lanzarote; the fourth largest island in the Canaries.

With mile upon mile of beautiful white beaches, great caverns within volcanic rock and a multitude of cheap hotels, this tiny island - just 80 miles from the African coast †attracts thousands of tourists each year.

The island itself, due to its volcanic nature, has many areas that seem reminiscent of something from the era of the dinosaurs.

Indeed, many areas of the island retain their natural beauty, with tourists flocking to the vast caverns †formed by volcanic eruptions hundreds of years ago †and to the coach tours through the Timanfaya National Park.

One of the islands’ most famous influences was the artist Cesar Manrique, whose designs are dotted around the island itself †from hotels to landmarks amongst the volcanic soil of the national parks.

With miles of open terrain to explore †either by coach or quad bike tours †and a variety of other attractions available on the island, Lanzarote can be an excellent destination for a short break.

Hotels in Lanzarote are dotted all round the island, with many catering to families. Indeed, the island itself has become more adapted to family groups.

One of the most popular attractions for families is the Guinate Tropical Park †located at the foot of the islands’ tallest volcano. With a rich variety of animal and plant life on show it makes a great day out for all ages, especially when it comes to feeding time at the penguin enclosure.

There are a variety of different attractions on the island, from museums dedicated to the works of Manrique to a multitude of theme parks based on water and even the Wild West.

However, it’s not just inland that provides exciting excursions. Dotted round the coast you’ll find a multitude of companies offering boat trips, fishing excursions and even submarine trips that let you experience those unseen parts of Lanzarote.
