How Content Drives The Web

By: Tiva Kelly Home |

In the same way cars need gas, people need food, and your garden needs water - the World Wide Web needs content. As the name suggests, the Internet consists of a web of information originating from all corners of the globe.

It is the continuous additions to that web that keep the Internet up-to-date and useful. To know exactly how content drives the web, there are several key components of the Internet that must first be understood.

Search Engine Fuel

Search engines, like Google and Yahoo!, exist purely for content indexing purposes. That is their sole function, and a very important function it is. With billions of people contributing to the web on a second by second basis, the Internet requires some organization.

It is the content that people post online that make these search engines necessary. Imagine the Internet without search engines. Instead of an organized web of related information, it would be a bunch of random information floating aimlessly in cyberspace. As long as there is a steady stream of fresh, relevant content, search engines will continue to stay up and running.

The Quest for Fresh Content

The most successful websites constantly update the material they publish. Think of the popular news sites that update their content multiple times each day. These websites not only attract a wide base of visitors, they also bring in repeat traffic. That means that many of their visitors check their site several times each day because they know something new will always be offered.

While not all sites update their content by the hour, many are looking to publish new content to keep people reading their sites. This is especially true for company websites. Even if the product or service they offer remains the same, it is important to present visitors with fresh information.

A stagnant website portrays a stagnant business. Innovative and informative copy that is rotated on a regular basis shows that a business is maintaining their website and always looking to offer their customers something new.

Where Content Comes From

That much needed content comes from you! You are what keeps the web running. With all the websites that desire fresh content, why not throw your hat in the ring and contribute. You may ask, how do I get started?

The answer is article marketing. You create articles related to your industry, submit them either individually or to an article distribution service, and sit back and watch them do your work for you. If you write informative and engaging content, you'll see websites pluck your articles from the information pot and publish it on their websites.

What Will Article Marketing Do For My Business?

Article marketing is widely considered to be one of the most effective ways to drive traffic to your company's website. As your articles get published on various websites, they will include a link back to your site.

If people like your article and appreciate what you have to say, they'll almost always click that link to check out your site. This generally leads to a significant increase in direct traffic to your site.

The other way article marketing works for your business is through the behind the scenes efforts of search engines. Google uses a backlinking technology in order to determine search engine rankings. The more links back to your site that are posted on well established, quality websites, the higher you will find your business in the Google rankings. The higher you are in the Google rankings, the more likely you are to get noticed by consumers cruising the net for information.

Article marketing works for your business by providing direct traffic to your website as well as helping to boost your Google rankings. In the world of online marketing, it doesn't get any better than that!
