What To Eat With Braces

When you were trying to eat with braces on your teeth there are some foods that you cannot have. Your orthodontist will be able to tell you what these foods are. They consist mainly of the hard or sticky foods like gum, popcorn, potato chips, and peanuts. You're not advised to eat ice or put anything hard in your mouth like a pen or pencil. Apples and carrots are also found to be something that will cause problems.

Not only is the food you eat carefully monitored but acidic drinks should be taken out of your diet as well. Acid that certain drinks contain can cause the bacteria or plaque in the mouth to become worse. It's already hard enough to clean your mouth with the braces on, so you do not need anything making it worse.

Something to think about is the fact that braces and their care have become easier by the ability to take the braces off. You can only do this if you were one of the many that are choosing clear or invisible braces as your treatment option. These braces can be taken completely out of the mouth to be cleaned. If you have regular metal braces, this cannot be done.

Brushing Your Braces

The brackets and the rubber bands that make up braces can also make little compartments for plaque and bacteria to hide can become tooth decay. These little enemies can only be taken out with the right way of brushing which is one of the smaller components of dental care for your braces. When you are brushing your teeth you need to be thinking about how important it is. Each time you eat a meal or a light snack you will need to clean your braces. In each and every small part of your teeth crevises will need to be cleaned each day with light toothpaste. Your orthodontist can tell you which products are best for you so do not be ashamed to ask questions. When you were finished brushing your teeth you will need to check to make sure that you got everything out by using a dental mirror. For those who have clear braces all you need to do is take them off and brush your teeth and then put them back on again.
