How Past Life Therapy Can Help Cure Phobias

By: 1awakening Home | Health-and-Fitness

Past life therapy is a quick and effective way to treat many emotional problems. It is also a useful tool to treat phobias. Phobias can come in all shapes and sizes from something relatively mild like a dislike of spiders (Arachnophobia) to something far more serious like a deep fear of closed spaces (Claustrophobia) or of going outside the house (Agoraphobia). Phobias are deeply distressing to the sufferer because the phobia can prevent the person from living a normal fulfilling life.

Sometimes people have a memory of an incident in their childhood or teens that later caused them experience panic attacks or a specific phobia, however more frequently the cause has no apparent explanation. An example of this may be a phobia of the sea (Thalassophobia).

Children usually love the seaside so it can be a real surprise to all the family if the toddler starts howling and screaming when taken to paddle in the ocean for the first time. Until now the child may not have shown any visible fear of water, but the moment their feet are placed in the sea they become terrified.

Children are very easy to hypnotise because they spend so much time in the Theta brainwave, this is the same brain wave adults are in whilst they are in hypnosis. A way of quickly and easily resolving the problem is to ask the child to remember another time when they were â€big’ and when something happened to this other person that caused the fear of the sea they are now feeling. The child is told that he/she is going to watch it all, just like looking at an interesting picture on a TV screen. This method is called disassociation because it allows a person to see pictures without feeling any of the obvious terror related to the situation. This will speedily and easily take the person back to the root cause of the fear and allow the therapist to work to eliminate the phobia. Sometimes there is a sense of anger or frustration because the person on the TV may have been pushed in the sea or a boat may have capsized and they drowned. Once all these negative emotions are released the phobia is also released.

It is usually a good idea at this point to take the child into a joyful scene where they are paddling happily in the water. This also allows the therapist to check that all of the fear is gone. If the child is content to see themselves playing in the water the phobia is gone. If there is still any grain of fear, no matter how small, the therapist needs to find out what this is about and eliminate that also.

The way of resolving the phobia with adults is quite similar and always involves releasing whatever the negative emotion they are still holding on to, whether this is anger towards who or what caused them to drown or just against themselves because the incident happened. When fear and negative emotions are released the phobia is eradicated and the person is free to get on with their life.
