How To Become An Expert At Video Games

By: Stan Cristian Home | Computers-and-Technology | Games

If you're a gamer that lives and breathes video games all day long, there is a good chance you can become known as a gaming expert. The things you need to become a gaming expert are plenty of patience and a lot of knowledge of all types of gaming systems and video games. If you can become one, the rewards can be great.

At this point, you might be wondering what exactly makes one an expert at anything. You can't exactly go to a college to get a degree of "expert in gaming", so it's about your own qualifications and knowledge. If you are a great gamer and you love using your skills to play games and solving the problems that they pose, your claim that you're a gaming expert might not be too far from the truth.

What you need to do is make sure that your experience and knowledge of the video game industry increases. When you're an expert, you know that you can always learn new things about the gaming industry. Try new gaming systems and games, test them and learn everything there is to know about them. Take every opportunity possible to learn new things about video games. Your increased knowledge will help you approach any problem much easier and will get you to be better known by others.

Another thing you should do is collaborations with other people that work in the video game industry. Close the game you're playing and go out, meet people and network with them. Doing this is a great way to get new information from others, without having to experience it yourself. It cuts down on the time you need to get new information and you also help other people learn more about video games and the industry that they're in. Every industry has its little secrets and there is no other way to learn them. Networking is the only way.

If gaming is definitely the industry where you want to become an expert, you should also take some game programming classes. After that, look for training programs and apprenticeships in gaming companies and if possible in your local area. It will give you a great chance at learning more about it and getting your foot in the door if you want to make a career out of full time gaming.

Besides that, you should keep yourself informed by talking with other people in online forums, subscribing to game magazines and get on the list of some book clubs that have gaming as their main focus.

Make no mistake, you will not always receive praises as an expert in gaming. Plenty of times people will criticize what you have to say and will have arguments to counter your own. This is the type of response you can expect from the Internet in a lot of cases. First of all, don't take criticism personally. In some cases people will want to test how much you know and in other cases they are just jealous because you have a better position than them. As long as you're sure that the things you say are correct, there is no reason why you should take it personally. The main thing is that you should always seek to improve yourself.
