How To Care For Your Golf Clubs

By: Judy Dinardo Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Storage
You will certainly need to purchase a golf bag to stow and carry your clubs. Look for helpful features such as a comfortable strap, sturdy sides, numerous pockets and fold-out legs that enable the bag to stand on its own. Also consider using head covers on the individual clubs; this will help prevent any nicks or scratches, which can negatively affect the speed and direction of the ball. Don't forget to always store your golf clubs indoors, as they can be damaged by the changes in temperature and humidity that occur in the garage or trunk of your car.
Cleaning
Golf clubs spend a lot of time in contact with grass, dirt, and depending on your skill level, sand and muddy water. Attach a towel to the outside of your golf bag and wipe your clubs after each use. In between rounds, clean them with warm soapy water and a soft-bristled brush to prevent grime build-up. Inspect them at this time for any excess signs of wear, such as dents or cracks. Always be sure to dry your clubs thoroughly so they do not rust.
Security
Theft is the last thing you want after all your hard work to improve your game and care for your clubs. Short of having them by your side at all times, there is no guaranteed way to prevent someone from stealing your clubs. It helps to buy a golf bag that has a lock on it, and consider placing your business card on the exterior of the bag in case they are found by a Good Samaritan.
When your golf clubs are in the best possible condition, you're more likely to shoot your best possible score. Don't forget to purchase other essentials such as balls, tees and men's or women's golf gloves. Good luck!
