There are many acne products with the intention of competing for your money and treating your adult acne. Just look at all the items that pack the shelves of supermarkets, drug-stores and chain stores. No wonder people who treat their acne themselves are so easily and so often confused and overwhelmed about what acne product is suitable for them.

It is very important to note that not all acne products that marketed towards acne sufferers can cure adult acne. Most of them are suppress, manage or mask the symptoms of acne. You have to understand this as well as to realize that acne is not a result of bad hygiene. Never think that it will be enough by using an over-the-counter acne product and wash your skin more often especially if your acne become worse. You should look for stronger products that might only be available with a prescription.

Acne treatment vary from being off the shelf, over-the-counter creams, prescribed and surgical. Almost every over-the-counter acne product is topical rather than oral, taken by mouth. They are made up of two general types of ingredients - Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid.

This type of adult acne treatment is used to treat mild cases of adult acne where an individual is attempting to halt the progression of acne and clear up some troublesome pimples. Sometimes they used in combination with other acne treatment during severe stages of acne. Dermatologist advices that wash the acne-infected area gently with warn water and mild soap before the topical acne treatment applied.

A combination of acne treatment is used for maximum effectiveness in halting any further development of the skin disease if adult acne progresses to the moderate or severe stage. For example, you might have to use different acne product for different parts of your face if you have combination skin that has an oily T-zone and a dry lower face.

Since adult acne is not a simple condition to treat, the adult acne treatment takes time to start working. After you start using acne product, do not get into routine of checking your face every day and looking for improvement. You need to be patient as sometimes the result of acne treatment takes up to 6 to 8 weeks.
