How To Clean Halloween Costumes

By: Robert James Home | Home-and-Family | Holidays

How many times have you seen your sons or daughters searching for their Halloween outfits which they had bought the previous year and on delightfully discovering their outfit which they had thought to be misplaced saddened by the fact that their costumes are in tatters and not worth showing off to their privileged party goers. If you are the parent, sibling or the person who has spent a lot of time to choose your Halloween costume and hope to use it next year. Here are some tips which you may find useful to clean your Halloween costumes.
The most important thing when you clean your Halloween costume is that you just don’t pile it up with your other clothing and dry clean them altogether. This may sound stupid but am sure some of you have the experience of doing this and finding the costume’s quality to deteriorate. Most of the Halloween costumes are made up of rayon or some other inexpensive material so special care is needed to wash them up. Some of the costumes might have cleaning instructions on them please do follow them. After partying all night on Halloween your costumes must be bound to have some stains, it is very much essential that you wash them up the next day or else it might become a permanent mark on your amazing costume. Take the costume separately and if the instruction says dry clean only, do not hand wash or put it inside your washing machine as the cloth may shrink a lot. Just dry clean the costumes if any stains are present just use a wet cloth with detergent to clean it off gently. If your costume can be washed then these are some basic guidelines to follow:

1 Fill a tub with cold water and immerse the costume in it after turning it inside out add the detergent you usually use to wash clothes but just ensure you only add a meager amount also add a small amount of fabric softener
2 Gently wash the costume to remove all the stains from it , rinse well to remove the detergent and fabric softener from it
3 Now dry clean the costume well

Once the costume has been dried up just don’t hang it up in your clothes hanger and let it be lost in your room or piled up with dust. Take the dried up costumes lay it up on your table and use your iron to spray some water on it. Keep a fairly low temperature and let the iron heat up after some time gently press your iron upon the costume to make it wrinkle free and appear fresh. Now hang your costume as you would wear or fold it up neatly and store it in a zip lock bag so you can use it next Halloween. There are also other Halloween accessories like wigs which must be stored by placing it in a wig stand after brushing it well to remove knots if any. Also store your other accessories in a box with a label along with your costume so you can find it easily the next time. Hope you found this information useful have a happy and clean Halloween.
