How To Customize Workspaces In Adobe Photoshop Cs4

By: Mandi Pralle Home | Computers-and-Technology

Adobe Photoshop CS4 is one of the most customizable image editing software available on the market today. The very name Photoshop is synonymous with quality, flexibility, and customizability. That's why it's become one of the foremost graphics editing software packages on the market today, used by everyone from professional artists, to graphic designers, to amateur photographers, and everyone in between!

One of the most useful features in Photoshop is the ability to create and use custom workspaces. Photoshop CS4 allows you to work, create, and edit your photos and images in many different ways. There are different panels, bars, windows, and other elements. Each particular arrangement of these elements is called a workspace.

Photoshop CS4 comes standard with several different workspaces for a multitude of different project types. These include Painting, Proofing, Video, Typography, and Web workspaces, as well as a few others. By default, the Essentials workspace is selected. This basic workspace is useful for many simple types of work, but there may be times when it is beneficial to use a different arrangement of the tools at your disposal. Simply click on the workspace button in the top-right of your screen to bring up the menu of available workspaces and to switch between them.

In addition to the preinstalled workspaces, Photoshop CS4 gives you the option to create a custom workspace. There are many different situations where it may be desirable for you to work within a custom workspace. For example, if you frequently find yourself working with large images, you may like to arrange your panels and palettes in a way that maximizes your space for documents. If you use a certain subset of tools or panels frequently, you may wish to make a custom workspace that includes only those panels. On the other hand, if you have a multi-monitor setup, you may want to make a workspace that is optimized to work across all of your displays, perhaps with some panels and palettes on one screen, and some on others. It's one of the great things about Photoshop, and one of the features that goes into making it one of the best graphics software programs to use for any job or project, no matter the target media, the size, or the workstation you're using.

Creating and saving a custom workspace in Photoshop CS4 is easy. First, arrange the panels within Photoshop whichever way you would like to save them in. Next, click on the Window drop down menu at the top of the screen. Mouse over the Workspace sub-menu, and within it, click on the "Save Workspace..." option. In the window that appears, type a name for the workspace. Be sure to choose a name that reflects the purpose of the workspace, or something else that will be easy to remember later on. Finally, simply click OK or Save to save your workspace. Your newly saved custom workspace will be available whenever you need it in the workspace menu. It's that easy! Photoshop CS4 makes it easy for anyone to customize their work environment.
