How To Drive A Golf Ball Straight

By: Jacob Moss Home | Recreation-and-Sports | Golf

Hitting the ball off the golf tee is one of the most significant shots in the game. Golf driving techniques must be perfected to guarantee you have a successful game, the following tips will help you be successful.

Accuracy and distance are always the two factors that most golfers tend to aim to improve in their game. If you can strike a golf ball even farther than your opponant it just makes sense that you will have a better chance of scoring a birdie or eagle. Essentially, the better your striking accuracy is, the straighter the ball will go. This will shorten the number of hooks/slices you do.

Perfecting the combination of these two skills will significantly improve your game.

To be able to master both distance and accuracy you will need to perfect your stance and setup. When addressing, as a rule of thumb, always try to keep your feet approximately shoulder-width apart.

An important tip to remember is that you have to have a square stance while you address the ball. Both feet must line up with the target. By changing your forward foot either up or back you can slightly open or close your stance when needed, this can be beneficial for your shot, but usually a square stance is best. Your hips and shoulders should follow the same rule and stay square to the target. By keeping a decent square stance at address you will soon see a huge improvement in accuracy.

A tricky technique to perfect is the art of increasing the club head speed, this will ultimately increase your distance. You must ensure that you can properly wind and unwind your body, while holding your knees in a flexed position. Standing too tall and straight will decrease your potential to gain possible distance.

If your shots are not nice and straight, but instead are slicing or hooking, you are making some mistakes. This is commonly due to the fact that your grip is off. Try to avoid gripping the club too hard or too soft, this can lead to your club face opening or closing upon impact. Practicing a neutral grip will allow you to hit the ball off the tee with a nice square club face, resulting in smooth, straight, and consisitant shots.

When addressing the ball, you must play it forward. To do this, simply make sure that the ball is placed closer to your leading foot. Your shots will sail high and accurate with this small adjustment.

Sadly, a lot of beginners often overlook the techniques involved with the backswing, you must always make sure that you hips are starting the backswing, the hands should never lead the backswing. A perfect turn of the hips is a key element to gaining more distance from the tee. This is because as your hips start the turn, the hands, arms, head, and upper body will follow.

A very important aspect of the swing is the peak. At the transformation between the backswing and downswing, you have to let your hips conduct the downswing. Once you have mastered this golfing tip, you will be surprised at how much you have actually enhanced your game.

To further improve your accuracy you must also make sure that your hands are following the club head through the impact of the shot. This will allow you to keep the club face square upon impact, therefore giving you a nice straight and accurate shot, rather than a hook or slice.

It might also be worth checking out the new 460 cc drivers to improve on any of the above golf driving techniques. These drivers are the heaviest available drivers and they contain a much bigger head. This can help with gaining more distance but you must be aware that without appropriate practice, these clubs can be hard to master the accuracy. You must be aware that these clubs demand plenty of practice to perfect.
