How To Find A Top Quality Building Inspector In Sydney

By: Jason Wier Home | Home-and-Family | Home-Improvement

Sydney and all of New South Wales have many building inspection services providing service to both consumer and industry groups.

The service of a pre-purchase building inspection in Sydney (and New South Wales) is commonly referred to as a “Standard Property Report”. Only building consultants licensed under the Home Building Act 1989 are permitted to carry out pre-purchase inspections of residential properties in NSW.

Some Sydney building inspectors will only work in the area of pre purchase established home inspections, some will focus on dispute resolution and others may be trade specific with a further focus on a single particular component of the construction e.g. roof inspections, electrical inspection and plumbing inspections.

As a consumer of a Sydney building inspection service it is important to have a clear set of criteria when identifying your best choice of building inspector for the job.

Does the Sydney building inspector have a specific field of expertise?
Does your inspector complete multiple inspections of the same nature day in and day out or is this a one off in comparison to the inspector’s regular inspection activities.

What suburbs of Sydney does the building inspector know best and work in most?
How easy is it for the inspector to fit your inspection work into their regular travel path? The more out of the way your inspection is from their regular suburbs of activity the less familiar they will be with the local building knowledge. You are also likely to be paying more for the inspectors travel time.

How familiar is the inspector with the local architecture and construction styles. Does the suburb have any recognised locations with a foundation problem? Is it in a potential flood zone or termite prone area?

Also consider that the easier it is for the inspector to schedule your inspection into their daily travels the quicker you are likely to have the inspection completed.
