How To Fix "no Sound" Problems With Simple Steps

By: Alina Home | Computers-and-Technology | Software

It doesn't have to be difficult to fix the "no sound" problem. Everyone likes to enjoy sound on their PC, so it's important to fix this quickly. Very often, outdated or corrupt sound drivers cause the "no sound" problem. Let's go over how you can effectively solve this problem.

Look Over Your Hardware

One of the things you should do is investigate your hardware. Take a look to make sure that your speakers are plugged in and powered on. Also, confirm that the correct cables have been plugged into the right inputs and outputs.

Next, you need to check your Volume Control to ensure that you haven't turned the volume down too low or muted your speakers. This is surprisingly common. You can also test sounds in the Hardware and Sound menu, located within the Control Panel.

Problems with Cables

If your speakers are just putting out a bunch of static, then it's very likely you're dealing with mixed or improperly connected cables. However, let's say the audio in your speakers is skipping or not playing back sound correctly. Maybe you've noticed that when you play a song in Windows Media Player, the song skips about 20 seconds in.

Disabling Speaker Enhancements

This is a symptom that definitely points to outdated drivers. It's very likely that your audio driver is corrupted or out-of-date if songs skip in Windows Media Player. However, you can attack this problem by changing the "enhancements" in your system's sound settings.

Here is how to disable speaker enhancements:

Click "Start."
Go to "Control Panel."
Select "Hardware and Sound."
Go to "Sound."
Click the tab labeled "Playback."
Then, click "Speakers."
Finally, go to "Properties."
Click on the tab labeled "Enhancements."
Then, click "Disable all enhancements."
Disabling enhancements will sometimes resolve the issues related to songs skipping and whatnot. However, if this hasn't worked, then you definitely need to update the audio driver.

You can use Windows Update to fix your audio driver. This function will actually scan Microsoft's database for patches and driver updates so that all you have to do is download and install the update. If you've enabled Automatic Updates, then the system will actually download these updates for you.

How to Make Manual Updates

Of course you can also perform manual updates of your driver. This means you'll have to actually look for and locate the driver yourself. You can always download audio drivers directly from the sound card manufacturer. Most sound card manufacturers offer easy access to drivers on their website. Just look in the "Support" or "Downloads" section of the site.

One of the most effective ways of updating your audio drivers is to download a good driver update program and then run it on your machine. The driver update program will scan your system for outdated drivers and replace those drivers with new ones.

Find a good software manufacturer and acquire their product. It's a fast way to resolve audio issues. Learn how to use good driver update software to fix the "no sound" problem.
