How To Gain A Loyal Following For Your Blog

By: Izzy Varea Home | Internet-and-Business

A fundamental difference which distinguishes a blog from a static website is the fact that with a blog, people are able to respond to your content. With a static site, however, there is no such interaction because it is just words on a page, plus maybe audios and videos which are both one-way correspondence. On the other hand, a blog is more dynamic in that visitors can explore and also comment back. This element of interaction is great for creating a loyal readership with your blog.

This is no walk in the park though! Because of the huge number of blogs out there, it is no easy task to get the attention of your audience, let alone build up a loyal following, especially when you are just starting out. Although it’s going to take some work and dedication to build a loyal readership, it is quite possible, and even great fun to go through the process and put things in place. If you follow these rules, you will be laying the foundation for a substantial improvement in your chances of building a loyal following.

Rule #1: Great Content is the Key

People will only return if your content is worthwhile reading, otherwise, they will not bother coming back. Great content is the key to building up a fan base. It doesn’t really matter if your grammar or style is less than perfect, the crux of the matter is that your content has something that the others don’t have and which will grab your readers’ interest. When you express your honest opinion about issues that matter to the readers, you are sure to incite their interest, and will prompt them to return in the future.

Besides wanting to return to your site, your readers will also want to link to you! And the more links you get, the higher your rankings in Google, and the more chances that your readership base will increase to unimagined levels.

Rule #2: Leave the Comments Open

It’s hard to understand bloggers who close their comments! Granted that they want to prevent spam comments, however, they stand to miss out on a large section of bloggers with something sensible and constructive to say. An important reason for having blogs is to hear what people have to say about issues that affect us all, and if certain blogs deprive readers of this basic privilege, then they are missing the point altogether. It matters little that people may or may not agree with your comments, but giving everyone an opportunity to say their bit, says a lot about you and your openness to receive other views, and this ultimately leads to a much larger and more interested readership.

Rule #3: Write Guest Blog

Whether you are aware or not, certain blogs have established themselves in your particular niche, and have built up a following of loyal readers. As a result, they probably enjoy a considerable amount of respect as well as traffic. Wouldn’t it be a great idea if you could also get access to their readership by writing guest posts for them? Of course it would, and all it takes to do this is to write to the owners of these blogs, and ask them if they’d let you write guest posts for them. The chances are good that they’d be glad to let you do this for a link back to your blog, as this will also give them a day off from blogging. Apart from getting link juice for the search engines, you’ll also have the chance to win over some of the readers through your posts.

It is imperative to learn how to create and build up a loyal readership with your blog if you want a constant flow of traffic. In the final analysis, the difference between a thriving blog and a stagnant one is the flow of traffic, and a loyal readership will ensure your blog doesn’t become stagnant if you give them great content and allow them to also share their opinions on your posts.
