A Singapore employment pass is a type of work permit targeted for individuals with good educational qualification and working experience. A Singapore employment pass can be any of three different kinds depending on the salary you will be drawing: P1 if your salary is over SGD 7,000; P2 if your salary is between SGD 3,500 and S$7,000; and Q1 if your salary is below S$3,500. Employment pass is the most popular type of Singapore work permit for foreign business professionals. It also allows pass holders to bring their family members to Singapore on a dependant pass. Once issued, a Singapore employment pass holds good for up to two years. A person who is interested in doing business in Singapore can also apply for another type of Singapore work permit called Entrepreneur Pass. To satisfy the requirements for an EntrePass, one must be willing to settle in Singapore and open a Singapore business that has a good growth potential and start operating it. The main advantage of EntrePass is that it does not require you to have a graduate degree. The Singapore employment pass is meant for skilled workers. Their eligibility is decided by taking into consideration factors like qualifications, salary, job type and work experience. Unlike other types of work permits in Singapore, an employment pass does not fall under a quota system. As long as you meet the eligibility requirements and you have secured a job in Singapore, you should be able to secure a Singapore employment pass. The dependant pass is a special pass which is given to members of the family of a Singapore employment pass holder. It’s important to note that dependant pass is not a Singapore work permit and the holder need to obtain special permission from authorities if they wish to seek employment in Singapore. The application for dependant pass can be filed along with the employment pass or even later if one so chooses. The processing time for the application processing can vary from three to five weeks. A holder of a Singapore work permit can apply for permanent residence in Singapore after working in Singapore for some time. A Singapore employment pass holder can usually apply for Singapore PR anytime after six months. Of course the application is subject to review and approval by authorities and approval chances depend on the type of work permit being held. Family members can apply for their PR along with the employment pass holder application.
