How To Get Business Class Upgrades In Flights?

By: Sarah Jose Home | Travel-and-Leisure | Aviation

You have an economy class ticket and you really need to upgrade it to business class. You would probably try all the possible ways to get the upgrade. However, at times it may seem very difficult to get the tickets in executive class. But by using a little common sense and good manners you can easily grab the chance. Showing arrogance is a complete â€no no’ and you must present yourself as a person with class and dignity to win the tickets. Some tips can be kept in mind while negotiating for a class upgrade. But the main thing is applying the right thing at the right place and time. And above all, your lady luck should also shine at that time.

By becoming a frequent flyer in an airline, there are more chances that you would get a class upgrade. You must also earn a valid upgrade certificate and try keeping your frequent flyer ranking at the highest possible level. There would be an increase in your potential to get courtesy upgrades if you maintain as a top level frequent flyer and travel on oversold flights of certain airlines.

Sometimes the travel upgrades in business class flights would depend upon the company that you keep during the flight. If you are not a top tier member of frequent flyer program, you don’t have to lose hope. You must try to keep the company of a top tier member and this would help you in a favorable way. You must consider yourself lucky if you get a chance to travel on an undersold or full fare flight. Also the empty flights show chances of getting a business class ticket as weight and balance are the major concerning areas in an airline. If the flight is empty, some fortunate passengers may get an upgrade. Besides if the flight is oversold, then also your chances of getting courtesy upgrades are more.

Your dressings and mannerisms play a key role in grabbing you a seat in the executive class. If you are traveling alone, try to dress like a business man and stay a little away from the crowd. Make sure that the airline agent notices you at the gate. Sometimes the airlines would go for an upgrade before boarding and they would surely prefer a person dressed in formals than casuals. Besides they find it easy to pick a solo passenger than families. The next important thing would be your mannerisms and behavior towards the airline staff. Keep a pleasant face and be courteous at all times. Be nice to the travel agents and staffs and you may get recommended to give upgrade when possible.

It may sound a bit odd to hear that your illness can be a boon at times. It may become a reason to get the seat upgrade. If you have problems with your legs, you can ask for seats with more legroom and within a span of second, you would get it. It would be better if you can limit your luggage to a single carry-on bag which will make you look like a frequent flyer. You must also keep looking for empty seats and ask for them long before takeoff.
