How To Get Cheap Airline Seats

By: John Morris Home | Travel-and-Leisure

When going on a trip, the most expensive thing you will purchase will always be the airline tickets. There are a number of websites who advertise their low airline fares and using one of these websites can save you hundreds of dollars on your flight. Airlines sometimes offer discount rates for early online reservations. It is important for you to look into these possible discounts and take advantage of them if they are available. Some airlines might offer more of a discount than others, so be sure to have a thorough look around and compare between competing companies rates.

1. Travel Agents

A travel agent can help you to save quite a good deal of money on your air fare. Using a travel agent can provide you with a number of benefits you would otherwise miss out on if you were to plan your vacation on your own. The experience of travel agents has allowed them to create good relationships with other companies involved in travel. They can get special deals on airline fares, hotel reservations, and any other tickets or reservations you might need such as reservations to theme parks or restaurants you plan to visit during your stay. This allows them to get better bargains for you in areas where you would be paying full price on your own. Even if you didn't save a penny from using a travel agent, your trip will be considerably more enjoyable because you won't have to worry about planning it.

2. Frequent Flier Programs

Many airlines offer bonuses to customers for flying repeatedly with them. For each mile that frequent flyer customers travel, they earn a mile of frequent flyer miles. The catch is that they must travel on the airline that they signed up with. For example, American Airlines frequent flyers do not earn frequent flyer miles if they travel on a Delta flight. This is why it is smartest to choose one airline and stick to it, rather than trying to accumulate frequent flyer miles with numerous airlines.

3. Travel in the "Off" seasons

The highest rates for airline tickets are during the summer months. And of course the second highest peak season is Christmas and new year's holiday time. By choosing to travel during the "Off" season, you can save significantly on your ticket cost. In some cases, traveling on the exact day of the holiday (Dec. 25, Dec 31, Jan 1) will be relatively cheap as well, because most people prefer to be home with their families. But that means that you'll be traveling on Christmas or new years day. But if it works out for you, that's great!
