It has been estimated that approximately 25% of all men regularly make use of an electric shaver. However not everyone seems to understand that if used correctly and you know how to get the closest shave with an electric shaver, your shave can be just as close as that achieved with a blade razor. The way in which an electric shaver works is to roll the skin ahead of the hair; this forces the hair up above the normal skin-line, where it is cut off. Making use of an electric shaver has many benefits, not least of which is the fact that they are easy to use and cut do not occur, much of the irritation from shaving is also lessened. Essentially it is safer, more convenient, less messy and much faster. Getting a closer shave is simple if you follow a few basic steps, for example cleaning the screen and cutter mechanism on a regular basis. Most electric shavers allow for the user to remove the head frame which holds the screen in place. The whisker dust then need to be gently cleaned away using the brush which manufacturers provide. Whisker dust also needs to be cleaned from the cutter and this ensures that the metal surface is better able to cut the facial hair. Residue build-up from the whiskers is able to impair the effectiveness of your electric shaver. It is recommended that these parts be cleaned at least every third shave and at best, after every shave. Making use of a lubricant for the screen and cutter is also recommended. Lubricant should be used sparingly, but it does come in an aerosol application and this frees metal again metal contact. When you make use of a lubricant you should be able to hear your electric shaver pick up in performance. This should be used daily as a matter of course, while the shaver is in operation but before you shave. Screens can become thin and wear, and cutters can become dull, so it is recommended that these parts should be replaced annually. If this is not done the shaver cannot offer a close shave and you may find that your skin becomes irritated if you have to repeat the shaving action over the same are of skin time and again. Your face should be clean and dry before you shave, if you are not in a position to wash your skin then make use of an alcohol based pre-shave splash on. This preparation makes sure the oil on the skin has been cleansed away and the whiskers stand out from the skin. Make use of a powder preparation if alcohol irritates your skin.
