How To Get The Closest Shave

By: Tymone Oaklin Home | Business

In the world of shaving, there are only two different methods that will allow you to achieve the close shave that you are looking for. There is manual shaving and electric shaving. Whether you chose to shave dry or wet is personal preference. Here is a breakdown about each method to help you choose which is best for you.
Wet shaving is the process of using a manual razor, some type of lubricating agent and water. When choosing to wet shave you first have to choose from the barrage of different types of razors our there on the market. You can choose razors that are disposable or ones that have disposable razor blades. You have the choice of either using the old fashion straight razors or trying the multi bladed razors that are supposed to supply the closest shave possible. Once you choose your blade, you then need to determine what type of lubricant you are going to use. Once again, the market has a whole shelf of agents from shaving cream to shaving soap to gels and oils. These agents are generally used to help moisten the skin and prevent razor burn when shaving using the dry method. Again, this is a personal preference in choosing what type would like to use.
Now that you have the tools, you can get right down to the shaving aspect. The first thing that you need to do is make your face moist using warm water. The next step is to apply whatever lubricant that you choose to your face and neck; then comes the shaving. You should always shave in the direction of the hair growth for maximum closeness of the shave. Make sure to rinse the razor blades often when shaving. This will cut down on the missed areas and make your shaving effort much less time. After you have completed shaving your whole face, you need to rinse with cool water. This will help to close up your pores again. Once you have completed this process, it is your choice as to whether or not you want to apply aftershave. (As there are many different types of aftershave, we will reserve this for another article).
Another method that utilizes the razor blade is the shave twice method. This is usually used by men who have extremely dense, thick facial hair in order to get a closer shave. The only difference is that the second time you shave, you shave in against the direction of the hair growth. You need to make sure that you apply whatever lubricant on your face once again before you shave for the second time. You still end with a cool water rinse at the end of the shave. The downside to this method is that it does increase your chances of getting cuts and can cause soreness and ingrown hairs to occur. The benefits are that you will get the closest shave that you have ever experienced at home.
The final method is the electric shaving method. There are quite few different types of electric razors on the market today. They are all based on the same concept. There are a set of oscillating blades behind a metal foil mesh. The bristles of hair poke through the mesh and are cut by the moving blades. Each type of razor has their own special design on the blades that are supposed to supply a very clean, close shave. Again, it is personal preference as to which type of electric razor you choose to use. The best part about electric razor shaving is that it does not require anything else but the razor. This is a dry method for shaving. You do not have to use any lubricants or rinse your face after shaving. It also eliminates cuts and razor burns.
So, now you know about the different methods for shaving. It is up to you which method you prefer. Just remember, one might not necessarily be better than the other and you may find that you use a different method every time you shave.
